Ilsa Hermann is a diminutive soul, with a sadding past. Married to the Mayor of town, Ilsa lives in a large mansion down the richer street of Munich. The particular street, in which Liesel and Rosa do the washing for. Throughout the book, Ilsa is described as a submissive woman with fluffy hair. Yet, the reality of Ilsa Hermann’s predicament is much sadder. When her son was sent into world war I, and never returned, Ilsa began to suffer from depression. Serious depression. Ilsa decided to live with the grief, saying that it would hurt more to fight it. This led to her strange appearance of bathrobes, and the rumors around town about the crazy and Isolated women.
