When thinking of America the first thing that might come to mind would be “Freedom” or “American Dream/Promise”. Although in some cases they both fall in the same place, as portrayed in the speech. The illustration portrays the immigrants that are sailing over to America. While the speech tells you about how we should view America and its values.
In his cartoon, Darrin Bell is implying that anti-immigrant attitudes today are continuities of anti-immigrant attitudes in the past. Although reasons for wishing away immigrants have changed over time, anti-immigrant attitudes in America are still extremely prevalent. It appears that the United States has started realizing the potential and benefits these immigrants present, but continue to shift their thoughts in order to align them with their attitudes. Through the cartoon, he is suggesting that the immigrants are minding their own business and doing what they need to do in order to support themselves. They are causing no harm to Americans, contrary to the belief that they are stealing American jobs. Immigrants are doing the jobs that Americans

I sometimes ask students why they came to The United States. For instance one young lady was from China. She had a bachelor’s degree, worked in an office, had her own car, and I got the impression her family was fairly well-off. When I asked her why she left her friends, family, culture, and what sounded like a comfortable and satisfying way of life she replied, “Safety, security.” I asked, “Why, what were you afraid of?” “The government,” she answered. A young couple from Mexico told me they came here so their children would be exposed to more opportunities. A woman from Russia told me that the only way you can get more than the next person in her country is by paying someone with a position to allow you get ahead. She said, “Here in America you can get what ever you want, and be anything you want, just because you have the ability to do so. A young man from Brazil said he had no home. He lived on the streets. He said he was always in fear of his life from the police. He road on top of the “La Bestia,” the immigrant train. It is a 1,450 mile trek with a real danger of falling off, as hundreds, and possible thousands have, and the danger of being robbed, raped, or murdered by the Mexican gang known as MS13. I guess he saw the possibilities of danger getting to the

Growing up my parents were very poor, they had a slight chance to survive if they stayed in Mexico.”. Immigrants come to the U.S. to have freedom and self- sufficiency. According to the article, “ Most people born in the United States don 't appreciate the gifts we’ve been given by being born in the U.S.” The immigrants that come to the United States to have things that they wouldn 't have so they appreciate it more. According to the article, “We have a wide array of educational choices; we have freedom of religion, freedom to say what we want, the ability to vote, a free pass to keep our political leaders in line.” What they are trying to explain to us is we have more rights than anybody in other countries and sometimes we take that for granted because other immigrants would of used the freedom that they would of had gratefully.
How would you feel if you and your family were denied the opportunity to a better life or had to wait years for one? The immigrants goal is to strive for a better future for themselves and their family. Coming here will help them achieve that goal. You may be thinking why cant they have a good future where they live? In some cases, the country they live in could be poor, not have many schools, is not safe, etc. America has more technology, schools, medicine, job opportunities, etc. Some may say how this may lead to letting in terrorists or how they will be taking away our jobs. That is a reasonable answer although, the United States itself was built and enhanced by immigrants who fled their country to find a better life for themselves, their families, and future generations. We as American citizen should allow these immigrants to become one of us. What if it were you? Wouldn’t you want to help these immigrants? Therefore, congress should lessen qualifications, the period
American is known as the land of free it’s open to anyone who wants to make an honest and fair living. But unfortunately America has been taken advantage of. “The Immigrant contribution” and “The Quilt of a Country” are two essays that share a similar focus, however, they cover two drastically different sides of the topic. Both of them share the main idea that America is a country made up almost entirely of immigrants. Kennedy’s essay, “The immigrant Contribution”, focuses on how immigrants have affected our country, whereas Quindlen’s essay discusses how people of many different cultures coexist and work together. The essays both concentrate on immigration in America and how immigration has shaped and molded our culture. The two authors describe the many different aspects of immigration in immensely different ways.

In the summer of 1776, Thomas Jefferson may have wrote the best “breakup letter” ever. Jefferson included in his letter a long list of grievances against the British and King George. In the long list of grievances he included: America's Declaration Of Independence against Great Britain. While Jefferson was writing the Declaration Of Independence; he felt like he was writing his death sentence and so did the signers of the document. Some topics that he included in the Declaration were how Thomas Jefferson was tired of how the king treated the American citizens, Equality, The Right to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness, Consent of the Governed, and Alter or abolish the government. The Declaration Of Independence was the first step of the creation of a new nation.
Immigrants from the mid 19th century and early 20th century consisted of mainly Southern and Eastern Europe, Asia, and elsewhere. Immigrants motivations, experiences, and impacts shaped what an immigrant had to go through being a different person from another country. Although Americans dislike foreigners who came to the United States, immigrants had a role in political, economic, cultural, and social aspects of immigrants because of their motivations, experiences, and impacts in America. New Immigrants did not have it easy and went through obstacles natives, political figures, bosses and others had thrown at them.
The American Dream has been questioned on its legitimacy in whether it is fact or fiction. Writers have pondered this idea in many forms in their writing, poems, songs, and essays. The American Dream seems to be a complex phenomenon that cannot be explained yet so many long to achieve it. It proves to be true to some, but breaks promises in others. It has the power to give hope or take it away. The American Dream is in fact true many would argue, but for the hopeless, it was only a Dream, a Dream that no longer exists today.
