People left their countries to move to America for many reasons. Starvation, religious persecution, and political persecution. They came to America, because America had jobs, some of their family was already in America, and America is the land of hopes and dreams. The Federal Government is investing a lot of man-hours and money to vet potential refugees before allowing into this country. Alex Nowrasteh, an immigration specialist from the CATO Institute argues, “Refugees adapt quickly to the U.S economy, complement existing workers, and settle rapidly into their new homes.” Because of their refugee status and the fact that they cannot return to their country, it forces them to make long-term commitments such as learning English and other social skills that will help them to become productive and accepted members of their community and the American society as a whole
