Immigration Course Reflection

I am glad to say, that out of all of my courses this semester, this is my most interesting course by far. Not only did we learn about interesting topics that have a direct effect on our lives, but we were also taught new ways to look at the world around us. From my experience in this class, I expect to enroll in more sociology classes before I graduate. In order to summarize my experience in this course, I am going to talk about five topics: The section I found my interesting, social issues I expect to be important in the future and possible solutions to these problems, a social problem I have experienced personally, and utilities I have gained through this course. Most Interesting I found the “War on Drugs” to be the most interesting topic that we discussed in this course. Before attending this class, I had only heard that phrase a handful of times, but I understood the basic premise of the topic fairly well. …show more content…

One of the main reasons that our country has stayed younger, in terms of total population, relative to other developed nations is our continued influx of young immigrants into our country (lecture). By not closing up America to legal immigrants, we will continue to increase the number of people paying social security and other government taxes to help provide for our seniors. In addition, we could look to china and japan for tips on dealing with a high population of elders. As a society, we could become more involved with the care of our parents when they grow old by making it the “norm” to provide care to your parents up until you are unable to offer the amount of care they need. At this point, it should be the responsibility of a certified caregiver. However, by reducing the amount of time they are under the care of certified personnel, less money would be required to provide for the older generations in America’s
