9/11 marked a significant turning point in American history and for the people of the nation. The impact of 9/11, its aftermath, and what it has done to America were all expertly explained by Frontline. After the United States was under attack Bush had no other choice than to claim war on the countries who were involved in the attack and the terrorist groups as well. In an effort to stop additional terrorist strikes on American territory, the US adopted a more assertive and active foreign policy after the 9/11 attacks. One huge takeaway I took from this was the sense of America having unity after the attacks happened and how even other countries were also grieving with America. There was a point where it felt like people were actually uniting …show more content…
In the wake of the catastrophe, the nation saw an outpouring of patriotism and a sense of oneness. However, it also resulted in a rise in prejudice and hate crimes against Muslims and anyone who is considered to be of Middle Eastern heritage. In the name of national security, the war on terror also resulted in the loss of civil liberties and privacy rights, with many Americans embracing these modifications as necessary to keep them safe. When Usama Bin Ladin and four others issued a self-styled fatwa, publicly declaring that it was “God's decree that every Muslim should try his utmost to kill any American, military or civilian, anywhere in the world, because of American "occupation" of Islam's holy places and aggression against Muslims”( PP 4 Slide 11). This really hit me because I am Muslim and people who don’t really know anything about Islam and its ideas and truths just think we are terrorists and that is the reality nowadays after 9/11. “Bomb this, Bomb that” people just mocking the religion think we blow people up but just know absolutely nothing and this is how stereotypes come about which is why Some people conflated Islam with terrorism and viewed all Muslims as potential threats, leading to an increase in hate crimes and discrimination against Muslims and those perceived to be Muslim. Some had this idea as the film stated that “Not all Muslims are terrorists, but all terrorists are Mulsim”(1:18:40-1:19:00). This is really important to understand because other societies will then start believing in this notion and that has already happened. This has had a lasting impact on the Muslim community and has contributed to the spread of Islamophobia or fear and hatred of Islam and Muslims. It is important to challenge these harmful stereotypes and to promote understanding and respect for all people, regardless of their religion or
9-11 influence me by all of those good Americans who died from the attack. And it also influenced me because I never got to see the world trade center in real life before it was destroyed. And the world trade center is something that I really wanted to see because of how unique it was. The world trade center is now a part of our history and will be in everybody’s hearts forever.
In the case of 9/11, most American citizens considered all muslims as “terrorists”, making room for stereotyping and racism that lasts even still today. People of the two different time periods were angered by the horrific attacks against the U.S., that both claimed a huge amount of innocent lives. Both the Japanese and Al Qaeda pre-planned
The events of 9/11 were a highly significant tragedy that had profound global implications. The attacks on the Twin Towers resulted in an immense loss of life, with 2,977 deaths, numerous casualties, and extensive destruction. Beyond the immediate human toll, the attacks triggered far-reaching changes in society and government. They prompted violent military responses and led to the establishment of Homeland Security in the US, accompanied by counter-terrorism campaigns and the enactment of the USA Patriot Act under President George Bush. Moreover, the attacks harmed Islamic views, increasing stereotypes and biases.
9/11 was the most tragic attack to ever happen in America. The attack affected survivors all across America, it impacted the United States in financial ways, made a huge difference on how we are governed today and created more problems that we faced after the bombing. “Nearly 3,000 people were killed during the 9/11 bombing, and almost 1,200 were
After these attacks the population became afraid to fly, more airport security was enforced, and a war that raged for twenty years came about. (“The September 11th”) These attacks caused destruction and chaos, but they showed how Americans came together through patriotism and sadness. Regardless of what you looked like or believed, civilians helped get each other out of New York and into safety. People donated food, money, and their time to help clean the city and support the families coping with loss.
The attack of 9/11 caused a lot of political judgments to become difficult. Al Qaeda planned this attack knowing lives would be lost or that people would be severely injured. It appears that terrorist attacks grew from spectacle to atrocity. The attack of 9/11 caused republicans and democratics to have even more different views on the government than they did before the attack. Republicans were isolationist when it came to building back up the nation, and unilateralist when it came to missile treaties and global warming.
The 9/11 attacks in 2001 were one of the most destructive and difficult times in the history of the United States. Since then many things had to change for the safety of the citizens in the United States, in order to keep citizens safe. These attacks were detrimental to our nation, but at the same time, really brought many people together in how the nation needs to protect each other together. With that being said, something needed to be done in order to promise that something like these attacks never happen again. In a time of hardship and a time where the world felt like they needed to feel safer, George W. Bush stepped up to do what is right for our country.
A date that has gone down infamously in America’s history is the tragic event that occurred on September 11, 2001. This date was a turning point in the world, and many changes could be seen, such as the addition of the TSA in airports and increased security. However, one of the lesser known effects was the sense of fear that was unconsciously instilled within our communities. Today, this fear is represented through our heightened awareness towards terrorism, and the increased distance we tend to place between ourselves and our fellow community members. While 9/11 was a day most noted for its horrific display of terror and the loss of many lives, it was also the day that we, as a nation, lost our sense of security and replaced it with a sense
The events that occurred on September, 11, 2001 were among the most catastrophic events in American history. The events of the day were summarized as 19 militants associated with the terror group al-Qaeda hijacked four airplanes and carried out targeted attacks in the United States. Out of the four planes, two of them were flown into the World Trade Center in New York, a third one into the Pentagon in Washington and the fourth one crashing off course into a field. The attacks resulted in the deaths of over 3000 people and the beginning of a soon to come American counter terrorism policy and the subsequent invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq. Although there are a lot of conspiracy theories around the real motives and players behind the attack,
The 9/11 tragedy was a moment where people had their guard up at all times. This was a time where life had strike to reality of time warfare with every person and country. Couldn’t trust no one that came to the U.S. America is the land of the free and the home of the brave, were brave because the generations before us had to face what had happened and to what is going to happen. This had left the buildings torn instantly killing hundreds of many people, getting them stuck in the higher floors. This attack was the worst in America ever since the Pearl Harbor All over our nation saw a major impact of devastation in the face of the September 9, 2001attacks.
The laws and regulations passed as a result of the 9/11 psychological attack by military personnel have helped American society since the United States government passed various laws and regulations. After 9/11, immediate action was needed to bring about change. The world has changed, so it won't happen again. This event opened the eyes of the world and made people plan and fight for the country. As it expands, the government has moved quickly to build a security system that protects our nation from large-scale foreign attacks by strengthening government, state, and neighborhood capabilities to prepare for, respond to, and recover from threats.
In the history of America, the history of the world, never had such unexpected terror descended from the skies. In one hour, the peace and relative quite of 9:45 AM in New York City, was disrupted by a plane circling overhead. Curiosity turned to aghast and shock as the plane started diving toward one of the twin towers. It crashed into an upper story of the building, spewing fire and showering those below with debris. This was only one of 4 hijacked planes, heading toward other United States landmarks.
The shock and disbelief of 9/11 revealed that America felt that something like this could not possibly happen to us. It showed that the security of our country had been compromised
The terrorist attacks on 9/11 have caused many debates over the years since they occurred back in 2001. Two American planes were hijacked and ran into the twin tower buildings, another was hijacked and headed for the pentagon, but thankfully never made it. Thousands of Americans lost their lives on the days of the attacks and to this day the sorrow hangs with us. Security was a huge debate of the time because America is supposed to be the safest nation there is, so how did this happen? America had lots of changes to make the attacks on September 11, 2001.
“Terrorist attacks can shake the foundations of our biggest buildings, but they cannot touch the foundation of America. These acts shatter steel, but they cannot dent the steel of American resolve.” George W. Bush delivered this speech on the night of the September 11 attacks. The shattered steel of the Twin Towers, once towering the New York City skyline, forever changed America and its response to terrorism. The largest foreign attack on U.S. soil appropriately gave reason to Americans to recoil in fear and lose trust in the future, but in reality, the country displayed the opposite reaction.
