In India, discriminatory attitude towards men and women have existed for generations and affect the lives of both genders. Although the constitution of India has granted men and women equal rights, gender disparity still remains. Discrimination is anything and everything where one is treated in subdued manner on the basis of sex, culture or cast. Any discrimination based on sex of a person which can happen for men as well as for women in called as gender discrimination. Gender inequality in India refers to health, education, economic and political inequalities between men and women in India. According to Target Law, gender discrimination is the most frequent type of employment violation. The effects of this type of bias on a company are often palpable. The atmosphere might become one in which employees are mistrustful, apprehensive and discontented. The impact of gender discrimination on a worker can be small or huge depending on that employee 's reaction. For instance an employee may be discriminated against by being asked discriminatory questions during a job interview, or by an employer not hiring or promoting, unequally paying, or wrongfully terminating, an employee based on their gender. Sexual discrimination in the workplace can also arise when the dominant group holds a bias against the minority group. One such example is Wikipedia. In the Wikipedian community, around 13 percent of registered users are women. This creates gender imbalances, and leaves room for systemic bias. Women are not only more harshly scrutinized, but the representation of women authors are also overlooked. Statistics say that in India males significantly outnumber females and this imbalance has increased over time. The sex ratio according to 2001 census report stands at 933 per 1000 males. Out of the total population, 120 million are women who live in abject poverty. The maternal mortality rate in rural areas is among the world’s highest. From a global point of view, India accounts for 19% of all live births and 27% of all maternal deaths. The deaths of young girls in India exceed those of young boys by over 300,000 each year, and every 6th infant death is specifically due to gender discrimination that is because of the view that male would come and feed the family where in women are just a burden on the family who would get married ultimately. Women face discrimination right from the childhood. Gender disparities in nutrition are evident from infancy to adulthood. In fact, gender has been the most statistically significant determinant of malnutrition among young children and malnutrition is a common, direct or underlying, cause of death among girls below age 5. Girls are breast-fed less frequently and for a shorter duration in infancy. In childhood and adulthood, males are fed first and better. Adult women consume approximately 1,000 fewer calories per day than men according to one estimate.
