Good governance contributes to a Not for Profit organisation by providing leadership. Hudson (1999) advocated that having a strong board was essential for providing leadership and good governance. In the past being a board member was seen as some sort of an accolade or pastime, something that was used to break up the monotony of everyday office work. Not many skills were required because it was not recognised that leadership was key to good governance and the track an organisation was taking. However in the ever changing world of the Not for Profit sector the standards and expectations of a board is now more demanding than ever.
