THE IMPACT OF TECHNOLOGY ON TEACHERS ROLES
1.0Introduction
Due to the development of digital devices, the society today has become knowledgeable and advanced in many ways compared to centuries back. Moreover, the education system is suffering from great and new challenges where the traditional methods of teaching and learning are being replaced by innovative ones. Many centuries back, lessons were delivered in form of lecturing and this method of physical classroom teaching was accepted by all. However, the traditional teaching methods setbacks have led to the advancement of multimedia learning and teaching methods. The use of multimedia in classrooms for teaching has contributed to effective learning where it provides new and interesting ways

Nowadays, technology seems to be everywhere. Devices such as computers and smartphones have become common all over the world and this has resulted to information technology becoming pervasive to almost everyone’s life. For instance, it is difficult for most of us to image our daily lives without the use of technological tools and devices such as video games, computers, televisions, tablets, cell phones or any other gadget. For the younger and upcoming generations, this is especially true to them. Additionally, in the education system, it has come a point where both parents and students expect technology to be used/ incorporated in the teaching and …show more content…
Additionally, with the help of technology, getting access and storing of huge amount of information has become much easier (Arkorful V. & Abaidoo N. 2014). Also the use of computers has enabled for a better and robust storage of knowledge. When one compares the use of chalks, boards, books, and notebooks against technology, she/he will see that technology is in a position to substitute all these materials. Moreover, Learners use the media which is readily available with lots of information. The use of the internet is a massive information storage base and it can be used by anyone to acquire any type of information. The use of technology in the classroom is beneficial in the way that it helps students easily absorb and understand what is being taught. For instance, the use of over-head projectors and computers can be used in classrooms so that students can view the notes as challenged by the idea of just sitting and listening to the teachers/ instructor talk (Saba A.,
In “Unplugged: The Myth of Computers in the Classroom,” David Gelernter suggests the limit of technology use in the classroom. Over that past several years, technology has advanced quite a bit. This new outbreak of technology is beneficial in some ways but Gelernter feels that technology is replacing the ways of teaching. He sees the significance of the subject and offers much visual analysis which helps the reader take more caution in using technology while in the classroom. Gelernter feels that technology builds a wall that enables students to build strong, basic skills.
Hi Bailee, I agree with you that we need to change the way we teach because technologies got more advanced and it would be helpful if we ultilize it in our teaching routine. Technologies can also help students be more engage in the classroom instead of listening to boring lecture. This will help entertain students while improve education.
Graff and Birkenstein argue that ‘the influence {of technology on education} is neither disastrous…..nor wonderfully revolutionary.’ They argue that However, there are a number of ways of technology can be used for good on education. Enhanced teaching is a common way. There are concepts that are better taught through illustration than dry theory.
al.). Whether we like it or not, technology is here, and here to stay, so it is imperative that students are allowed to use it freely in the classroom, “78 percent of students believe the internet helps them with school work” (Lenhart, et. al.) indicating that students are not simply using the internet for their personal pleasure, they are using it to better themselves in their education. Technology is here, and here to stay, students everywhere are using it, and for even less than half of the schools in the United states to believe that it is causing their students to be in a “cave”, it would give those students an unfair disadvantage in life after high school because they would lack the skills necessary in the current work force.
In today’s modern society technology plays a huge role in everyday life. Technology has a big position in education. Today students use laptops for school on an everyday basis to take notes, work on assignments, and research. Many people agree that, when it comes to education, technology can either be very harmful or very helpful. Timothy D. Snyder, a history professor at the University of Yale has written five award-winning books.
Since some schools are more open to the idea of intertwining technology with learning, some factors should be considered before transitioning. Before integrating technology into curriculums, schools should consider possible addiction that students may acquire, lack of skills and short attention spans that may result from technological exposure, as well as the positive potential that technology has- like easy access. In the end schools should focus on both the negative and the positive side to rule out which one outweighs the other. Being exposed to technology at first can have an exciting effect on the user, overtime this can lead to addiction. Younger generations especially, can easily get captured by the contents on their computer as most of them “prefer picture to words” (Source E).
Educational Technology Annotated Bibliography Kozma, R. (2003). Technology and classroom practices: an international study. Journal Of Research on Technology in Education (1539-1523), 36(1), 1. The author of this article, his name is Roboer B. Kozma, is now working for the Technology in Learning center, the name of the center is SRI International. In this article he explores all of the findings of research that was done by many researchers on how the technology is affecting our classrooms.
Integrating technology in education can be extremely beneficial. It can be a useful method for the students and their teachers, which improves both their skills. In addition, being active on the Internet when learning can make students and teachers’ academic journey easier. There is a lot of evidence that proves how useful technology is for both students and their instructors. This paper attempts to show that using the Internet allows
Last but not least, technology is also helpful because it benefits educated people. This is a true fact because students can use online resources as a learning aid, and teachers can use different software and presentations to teach. For example, “technology is helping teachers to expand beyond linear, text-based learning and to engage students who learn best in other ways” (). Another example of technology helping educated people is, “its role in schools has evolved from a contained “computer class” into a versatile learning tool that could
In the classroom, technology can encompass all kinds of tools from low-tech pencil, paper, and chalkboard, to the use of presentation software, or high-tech tablets, online collaboration and conferencing tools, and more. The newest technologies allow us to try things in physical and virtual classrooms that were not possible before. Today, I cannot imagine how difficult it is to teach without technology and how hard it is to learn without it. Technology plays a major part in our lives as students.
As a result, in this article he proposed different kinds of visuals and how they can be used in the classroom. Yunus, Salehi, and John (2013) conducted a research to investigate the teachers’ opinion toward using visual aids in classroom. Therefore, they selected 52 English teachers in Malaysia and interviewed with them. The majority of teachers believed in the significant effect of visual aids on teaching materials. In fact, they used visual aids to engage the students and also make the materials more interesting for
With the use of digital learning, it will help the students to be more active engaged in their lesson,
1) INTRODUCTION Education is an important thing for all people, especially to students who will grow up and will develop advanced countries. Education is not only to go to school but also education can be obtained everywhere now, for or example, at home. Parents can teach their children. By using the sophisticated technology now, education can also be easily found. Technology is a type of electrical system or digitally generated to facilitate everyone in manual.
Benefits of new technology Technology has grown rapidly in the last few decades and has contributed into many aspects in human life. Technology is a broad concept that has come to refer to breakthroughs in science that enables a better solution or automatic. With technology, there are many benefits that can be achieved by people. Day by day, technology made human live become easier and improved. Recent developments in technology can be seen and felt in many industries, but there are some areas that have benefited more than others.
Integrating technology and interactive media into the learning actually makes the lives of teachers easier and making the
