The impacts of climate change and its associated extreme weather events are obvious in both developed and developing countries. They constitute a major threat to socio-economic development programs in every country. Climate change is a global phenomenon and it has no regard for national boundaries. The increasing occurrence and intensity of the extreme weather events associated with climate change such as flooding, drought, storms, desertification, increasing rainfall variability, among others are a great problem to mankind. It has been reported in the literature that the distribution of the precipitation over time, as well as over the distance is very complex and irregular. In other words, desertification can be defined as the process of land degradation which involves a continuous change from very little to very severe degradation of the plant and soil resources as a result of human activities (Dregne 1986). Barrow (1999) defined desertification as a process in which the ecosystem losses its capacity to maintain and repair itself. Desertification has deprived farmers in a number of ways which are deposition of sand dunes, insufficient water for agriculture lands and these result to low income on the part of the farmers. The impacts of desertification can be measured by the reduction in the productivity of plants and the undesirable alteration in the biomass and the diversity of fauna and flora, increased soil deterioration. One of the most major problems facing the northern Nigeria is desertification and it has an awful consequence on their economic. Humans tend to categorize storms according to what we see as the weather's most damaging or impressive aspect; hence, we refer to snowstorms, thunderstorms, ice storms, hailstorms, windstorms, and rainstorm and so on. The huge sum of money and number of lives lost to wind and rainstorm hazards in Nigeria is an indication that wind-related hazards are a major problem.
