BUSINESS ANLYTICS IN EDUCATION
Business analytics is the practice of iterative and methodical exploration of an organizations data with emphasis on statistical analysis. It is used by companies committed to data-driven decision making.
Business analytics is also used in each and every aspect of education.
Primary and secondary education is becoming increasingly demanding both in terms of running schools as a business and providing the resources to educate young minds.
School administrators and boards are often expected to do more with less like
• Funding tied to fees charged
• Academic results
• Student population size
• Class sizes
• Average daily attendance
• Extended program offerings like languages, music, fine arts, sporting etc.,
• A

As with any new area of practice, a variety of terms are adopted to describe concepts and processes. Each of these terms is being integrated into the literature, but a preliminary review of the analytics in education revealed similar terms with different conceptual or functional definitions, as well as different terms with similar conceptual or functional definitions. Although these issues are not unusual in an emerging and developing field of research, we believe the analytics field is now at a point where clarification and agreement of terms is merited. They initiated some discussions to establish common terminology and application in the field of analytics in the academy. Emergence of Analytics in Higher Education all types of organizations from businesses to higher education institutions share some of the same business reasons for adopting analytics like
• increasing financial/operational efficiency
• expanding local and global impact
• establishing new funding models during a changing economic climate
• responding to the demands for greater accountability

Regardless of whether one is in the corporate/business or academic area, the description of analytics remains consistent.
Business and Academic Analytics: Business analytics and academic analytics are parallel concepts with similar goals and intents. This level of analytics allows management/executives access to indicators, historical or real-time through dashboards of how the business (higher education institution) and its units (colleges, schools, or departments) are performing. The term academic analytics for applicability in educational institutions, the purpose is similar in a business setting to run the business of the institution and the academy. Learning Analytics : Learning analytics is a point of divergence in our conceptual model, as it does not have the same goals in the business and academic streams. From a training industry perspective, learning analytics focuses on two areas learning effectiveness and operational excellence with the latter referring to the metrics that provide evidence of how the training/learning organization is aligning with and meeting the goals of the broader organization. Learning analytics in the academic domain is focused on the learner, gathering data from course management and student information systems in order to manage student success including early warning processes where a need for interventions may be warranted. Once this is done I can set everyone up in classes with Enterprise Analytics. Sorry for the confusion…more to come! Donna
1. Standards Driven Data: Online tools and resources will be used to analyze standards used in a course. How often are they being used and are they being used appropriately? Data then will determine what needs changed and adapted to meet those requirements. 2.
It seems that governments in the United States are having difficulties meeting the needs of the people with the current resources allotted to them. Government has the task of disturbing revenues to programs that act in the public interest. At times, programs, such as education, are underfunded. Schools then confronted with the challenge of funding beneficial with insufficient revenue and finding alternative methods of funding. More often, we are seeing schools asking students to bare the financial burden in order to participate.
To make progress, one clear necessity is having the funds to do so. Finances are essential for making headway in nearly any department. When an elected official decides to graft or accept bribes, it is important to consider “the harm they have done by stealing the taxpayers’ money” (Gates). Not only are these workers thieving precious time from the communities they are meant to protect and serve, but they are also misusing the money of the same people that elected them. This is money that is needed for the betterment of Mississippian schools, recreation, public buildings, and society.
Being an administrator means that you agree to serve 24/7. With everything you do, you must realize that it is ultimately going to affect your students. You can only justify decisions if you know that you have acted in an ethical
It qualifies as an analytical company based on its utilization of enterprise level business intelligence teams and infrastructure, using local and department level analytical teams to build out competitive advantages, and having a culture that supports and can understand analytics from the top down. It lacks the features to be considered a competitor based primarily on its fractured governance of analytical initiatives and the lack of a strong central analytical corporate strategy that is applied beyond a few select measures tied to company performance to drive

There are many benefits that the BIS can bring to an organization such as boost productivity, sales and market intelligence, the setting of more accurate and realistic goals, positive return on investments, gain insights into consumer behaviors, operational visibility and identification of key trends (Holley, A. 2015). Recommendations for developing and using the BIS described in this case, include the use of an effective BIS that incorporates different factors or circumstances in the internal and external environment of the organization such as sales, costs, weather, items or services offered by the company, and trends. Another reason to implement BIS is to reduce voluminous amounts of irrelevant data, poor data quality, and user resistance that affect the effectiveness of
The goal of the project is to leverage best of breed visualization software to minimize the cost to develop and maintain dashboards. In this initial phase of this project aims at developing a single dashboard that will display summarized students results and identify trends in the results. Results obtained are of AZ merit, a computer based test measures critical thinking skills for college and career readiness Data tell stories: The first step for any data analysis using visualization is to identify the source of data. A child’s education is affected by various elements such as gender, race, environment, economic factors, privilege, and more. These elements shape the outcome of a student’s educational experience and learning. They also determine what and how students will learn. In order to create an appropriate learning environment, there should be a sense of community. In other words, the common goal should be helping students succeed and reach their maximum potential.
Politics also play a part in this dynamic on a large and small scale, from the board members who must campaign for their position to individuals engaging in self-promotion in hopes of improving their position. Legitimate formal power and direction comes from the top of the pyramid on down through the ranks. Perched at the top of the power pyramid are five elected county school board members and the county superintendent of schools. Below them are five assistant superintendents and at the next level down are a combination coordinators and program managers. Lastly, all other staff make up the base of this formation, having the least amount of influence and dependent on mid-level managers for resources, information and approval of decisions.
2.a) The school Governors are volunteers who ensure a school is run efficiently, they work with the school to deliver good quality education, they set the schools aims and policies whilst working with the head teacher. They also make sure the schools budget is spent correctly and the building is being run well and safely. Senior Management Team (SMT) consists of the head teacher, deputy heads and the heads of the departments. They have a collective responsibility for the efficient daily running and discipline of the school, assisting the head teacher in leadership and management and is designed to allow strategic day to day responsibilities.
The strategic purpose of school governors is to support the school in many ways. This includes, making sure there is a clear vision, ethos and strategic direction within the school. They support the head teacher and hold them accountable for the educational performance of the school and its pupils. They will oversee the financial performance of the school and make sure its money is spent in the right areas. They will also carry out a number of other significant duties, which include the appointing and dismissing of staff, hearing appeals and grievances, forming policy on the school's curriculum, setting standards for pupils' behaviour and discipline and setting and monitoring the school's aims and policies.
The text states, “The superintendent did have enormous power of initiative in virtually all matters concerning the schools: the appointment of staff, the selection of textbooks, plans and contracts for buildings, the determination of the curriculum, and normal decisions about everyday running of the schools” (159). When examining the formal education of our current educational institutions, it is evident that the power structure lies with superintendents, school boards and principals who share expectations on how classrooms should be run as well as decision making for the betterment of the institution and students. Overall, formal education has evolved and will continue to evolve as educators search for their perception of the “one best system” for their students. Throughout the history of education, power structure and social class matters have influenced how educators implement regulations, interact with community members and fellow educators, but most importantly, the education of students so that they may be instilled with the skills and confidence to further themselves as
