Why I Chose To Study Architecture

During a visit to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 2010, I fell in love with the idea of designing buildings. At age 10, telling my mother that I wanted to be an architect was a pretty bold statement, but the idea of being able to create beautiful and environmentally sustainable buildings has been so appealing to me, especially in the last few years as I truly began to understand how we are deteriorating the planet.
For some time, however, I was scared that architecture wasn 't my calling. I was always told that I would need physics to study the course and when I started learning physical science, I realized it wasn 't as fun and easy as I had wanted it to be and thought I 'd have to rethink everything. My 'O ' Level Art results may not have been the greatest, but I am passionate about art and design. I am a fast learner and in the case that I don 't understand something, I make an effort to learn it. I have been playing the violin for almost 6 years now. I am classically trained and have passed ABRSM Grade 3 and 4 exams. I was also part of my school 's orchestra. In my final year of high school, I was a prefect and the head of my school 's media club. In terms of work experience, I worked at a cafe/bookstore (Corner Cafe at the Harare International Airport) during my 2017 April holiday. I worked as a waitress and a shop attendant. I have been speaking English for as long as I can remember and am very fluent in speaking, writing and reading in it. I 'm a bit rusty with my mother tongue, Ndebele, but I do quite a good job when reading and hearing it.
Finally, I have chosen to study abroad simply because although a few universities in Zimbabwe offer the degree, they are not as highly recognized as international universities. I feel that by studying overseas, I will be able to get a top-notch education that I can use to my advantage when I return home to help develop the area. It has also always been an aspiration of mine to travel more and learn more about how other people live and immersing myself in a new country, by myself, will help me do just that and be able to grow more confident in myself and learn not to be constantly dependent on
