Behaviorism arose to make psychology more reputable and scientific. Behavior can be studied because it is visible and can be scientifically measured. Behaviorist assumptions were that your mind is like an unlockable black box. They believed learning was a change in behavior, not a change in thought. Behaviorism has two types of conditioning, classical and operant. Ivan Pavlov was a doctor studying bodies who inadvertently stumbled upon classical conditioning. Classical conditioning is learn through repetition. Although Pavlov is the person that stumbleupon pre-behaviorism, John Watson is called the father of behaviorism. To be a successful teacher you need to have control over your classroom and control doesn 't need to be obtained with only punishment. I believe that classical and operant learning can help create good relationships with students and that is useful in the classroom setting. John Hattie, an educator and researcher at the University of Melbourne, proved teacher-student relationships are crucial in raising student achievement(). I have had multiple teacher use both behaviorism and social learning concepts in their classrooms and I have found them to be effective. I still remember that in elementary the whole school had a clapping system. If a teacher did the certain clapping pattern, we echoed back, and stopped talking. When it comes to abstaining students attention it is much easier to clap then to try to yell over 300 screaming children. I am planning on going into early childhood education so these methods can be used greatly for younger children. Kids can learn so much from songs and dances while getting to have fun. I still remember things that I learned when I was little because it was interesting and I enjoyed it. Social cognitive learning has a lot to do with role models which is really important in my opinion. I learned as a cheerleader in high school that everything you do is seen by younger students, so you need to set a good
