Biocontrol (Biological control) is the use of living organism to control a vector by their natural enemies. Biological control includes the use of predators, parasites and pathogens (Eilenberg et al, 2001). It is regarded as one of the most potent tool to control insects, especially mosquitoes without causing any harmful effect on human health, food chain and environment. Severalespecies of cyprinodont fish (e.g., Gambusia spp.) have been released as biocontrol agents of mosquito larvae. The eggs, larva, pupa and adult mosquitoes provide ideal food for fish fry, fingerlings and many adult fishes. The small sized carnivorous fishes especially prefer mosquito larva throughout their life. Larvivorous fish have been employed as biocontrol agents of mosquito larvae in several countries across the world including Iran (Tabibzadeh GB, Nakhai, 1970), Argentina (Marti et al., 2005), Australia (Willems et al. 2005), Turkey (Yildirim and Karacuha, 2007) and India (Ghosh et al., 2005; Manna et al., 2008), It was Alkin, as early as 1901, reported that there are fishes which consume mosquito larva as their main food component. He asserted that if these fishes are introduced into stagnant water bodies, they will feed upon mosquito larva resulting in decrease in mosquito population. Later on several workers like Bentley (1910), Hora (1927), Sen (1937), Hora and Mukherjee (1953), Covell
