I am a sophomore. This will be my second year at Ben Lippen and as a boarding student. I am the youngest of four siblings. My parents work as full-time missionaries for a Christian non profit in Haiti. Before I came to Ben Lippen I was living in Maine with my mom while my siblings were at school and my dad travelled back and forth. In order for my mom to return to assisting my dad more fully, I came to Ben Lippen. While I lived in Maine, my family attended an independent Baptist church. I would categorize myself as nondenominational. Since I have been at Ben Lippen, I have gone to Shandon Baptist. I believe that my most striking achievement is living away from my parents. Boarding school has been a catalyst for me becoming more independent and self-sufficient. I have had to deal with many different trials and extra stresses that I was not prepared for. Despite this, living here has been a advantageous and enjoyable opportunity. My fascination with politics and economics were the driving …show more content…
My sister is the closest in age to me and she is five years older. After my sister and brother went to college, my mum, my oldest brother, who has special needs, and myself were left; besides when my dad would come home. Her and I’s relationship changed courses from simply a mother daughter relationship to one of deeper friendship between individuals who were close to equals. Out of everyone in my life, she is the only one who fully sees me in all the different areas of my life. Because of this, her opinion and advice has the most significance to me. Right now I would like to do something in government. I have been interested in the our country’s domestic and international political affairs since middle school. This career encompasses many of my different passions including, business, education, and ethical issues. I enjoy talking to people and have even found myself daydreaming about myself giving
The career that fascinates me and what I plan to be when Im older, is a Dental Hygienist. A dental hygienist is a stressful job, but it helps a lot of people. You are helping people get better teeth and even look better, because when people have straight pretty teeth, they seem to have an upgrade in their looks. I haven’t always wanted to be a dental hygienist, I had many other career choices. But, something about making people smile when I’m the reason they look good doing it makes me happy.
My name is Emma Hogan and I am a junior at West Delaware High School in Manchester. Throughout my high school career, I have been involved in many activities and utilized my leadership skills to help me succeed in the classroom. I take pride in my academic achievements and have always made academics a priority. Being the youngest in my family, I grew up in the shadow of two older siblings who were thoroughly involved in school and worked hard for their grades. Seeing their success was the motivation for me to work hard and take school seriously as well.
For example, both my sisters chose not to take their academics seriously and as a consequence, they were not accepted into their preferred college. I on the other, aspired to excel in academics and achieve my goal of attending Texas A&M University. Nevertheless, as life continues to present me with task I can’t handle alone, my family is there every step of the way to provide support and give advice when need be. As I branch off and head to college in the upcoming year I reflect on the numerous reasons why family plays such a paramount role in my life.
Indian Boarding schools were created in the 1800s to “Kill the Indian, Save the Man.” They achieved this by transforming the natives looks, culture, language, and teaching them a certain way so they would be able to function in a “european society”. Indian boarding schools taught students both academic and “real world” skills, but they did so while ripping the indians from their culture. Most indian boarding schools were the same with their tactics in transforming the native man into a white one.
“The significance of Native American boarding school was that Americans were trying to assimilate their culture and their way of living.” Many Native Americans today have very different opinions to how their people were placed in Indian boarding school. “Many Native Americans think that it helped their people be more civilized and help them live in american ways. ”While other Native Americans think that boarding schools were a place where they were torchered and a place where they lost their freedom and their culture. “Most people agree that Indian Boarding schools were just trying to help indians be more civilized, but others can see the wrong in the schools.”
In a society that embraces the advancement of scientific knowledge, my desire to contribute in the field of science is incredibly strong. Specifically, I am greatly interested in the micro-sciences, such as biochemistry and general chemistry. These academic programs focus on the building blocks of all living and nonliving material throughout the universe. This research offers me endless opportunities to make a positive difference.
I have always wanted to help people and to help them better their lives, but I never could figure out how I could make that passion a reality, until the day I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety at age eleven. After that rough period in life, I learned how I could help other people. I could listen to them and try to help them better understand themselves. Life is much easier for a person when they have people who believe in them like a psychologist or therapist. My college plan would be to earn a bachelor, and master degree in Psychology to become a Behavior Analyst.

I hope to influence legislation to give children more rights in the court system because I believe that they do not have enough. Finally, I hope to come back to the Independence Youth Court and serve as a mentor for volunteers just like me who need guidance in their college and career planning. I hope to continue my work with the Independence Youth Court long after I pass the Bar

My parents always stressed how we should do our best and have to work for the things we want. Growing up I learned this doesn’t come easy. As everything college is upon us I have reflected on these principles and pondered how I will come up with the money for my college education. The clear cut answer is scholarships. You will see in this essay that I am a worthy candidate for this scholarship.
Having a younger sister allowed me to take care of myself without others assisting me the whole way through and to watch out for others. I slowly adjusted to the “role model” my parents wanted me to become, someone my younger sister could to look up to. I began helping my family in numerous ways such as entertaining my younger sister, feeding her, and keeping her away from potential hazards. I, like many older siblings, am committed to helping younger peers grow and adjust to the high school life by giving advice and comfort. Not only will this experience support incoming freshmen with their sometimes intimidating high school transition, but also help me develop as a leader through serving
