Introduction:
Data have increasingly become more important to organizations these days. A corporation requires lots of funds to manage data but today’s economic conditions makes it difficult for organizations to fund activities to manage data. The corporation treats data as a strategic asset.

Importance:
There are two aspects of data quality, the reactive components and proactive components. The reactive components of data quality helps in countering the problems which already exists in the corporations. The proactive components prevent the arrisal of new problems. Relationship between IT department and business plays an important role for the success. IT requires to understand business rules for the data to be managed as a corporate assets. Many companies does not give any importance to data quality management which they realise after losing billions of dollars.
Challenges related to data quality Management:
Data quality management is not an easy program. To be successful lots of challenges have to be dealt with. Many companies do not take up formal data quality management due to the following reasons:
i) No department of a corporation holds itself responsible for the problems which arise due to lack of data quality management:
One main challenge of data quality management is that no department of a corporation will be ready to take responsibility of the data management. Once the data is collected and stored, other department’s feel that their work is done and rest all is put upon the IT department. For example manufacturing department, Product development department and Sales department should work together to arrive at common business rules and definitions for data about products and the way it should be sold.
