Why Is Discrete Mathematics Important?

Most middle and high schools prefer an "integrated" curriculum, wherein elements of algebra, geometry, and trigonometry are mixed together over a 3-year or 4-year sequence. However, this approach generally lacks a great deal of emphasis on ‘Discrete Math’, topics such as combinatorics, probability, number theory, set theory, logic, algorithms, and graph theory. Because discrete math does not figure prominently in most states ' middle or high school "high-stakes" progress exams, and because it also does not figure prominently on college-admissions exams, it is often overlooked.

However, discrete math has become increasingly important in recent years, for a number of reasons :-

Mastery of discrete math isn 't essential to programming, but if we want to call ourselves a computer scientist, we need to understand how information is stored, retrieved, represented in memory, and how it may be rearranged and manipulated, which requires some understanding of the principles in discrete math. The same can be true of probability, especially if we need to predict how likely some events are (like how often a variable might be divided by zero, given the dataset that we have), or our algorithm 's performance depends on the range or ordering of the incoming data.

Suppose, for example, you have access to all the emails my friends receive. Some of them were recently tricked into an online scam – something like those Nigerian emails. You told them not to respond to them but they did, and lost a thousand bucks. Now, you want to add some functionality to the email server, your college uses that if there 's any email like that, it 'll automatically be sent to the SPAM folder. But, HOW WOULD IT
