Healthy eating is important for all adolescents. In my opinion, this proposition is a no-brainer but a lot of young people would find this a challenging and controversial statement, particularly because they prefer junk food over healthy food. I think there are some legitimate reasons why young people should learn to love eating healthy food.
You are what you eat. A lot of kids love eating unhealthy food because it’s tasty and addictive. According to nutritionists and scientists, it is important to eat a balanced diet of mixed foods, especially for children and adolescents because they are growing and developing their organs and their bodies. A growing population of kids are now eating unhealthy foods like hamburgers, meat pies, candy and soft

There are many reasons why vegetables are at the top of my list. Children’s growing bodies need good nutrition and vegetables contain a load of minerals, vitamins and other healthy compounds. Spinach is an excellent source of iron which can prevent anaemia, a deficiency problem which occurs when your body doesn’t have enough iron to produce haemoglobin. Haemoglobin is the part of red blood cells that makes blood red and enables the red blood cells to carry oxygenated blood around the body. This can lead to fatigue and may even kill you. Another example of how vegetables help adolescents grow is carrots. Carrots have man health benefits but the most recognized benefit of carrots is how they can improve and help your eyesight. The reason why they are so good for your eyes is the fact that they are rich in beta-carotene, a pigment which is an essential for vitamin A to form. If kids don’t have enough vitamin A, it can lead to blindness, cataracts and xerophthalmia. Phew! That’s a mouthful. Basically, that’s a disease with the symptoms of dry eyes, swollen eyelids and ulcers. Now, you may be thinking yeah, yeah, you’ve got examples, but how many vegetables do you actually need to eat daily. Well, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, girls and boys aged 12-18 need to eat around 5-6 vegetables daily. Now here they say that one serving of vegetables is 75 grams. That’s not even half a kilogram. I’m pretty sure we can all handle eating less than half a kilogram of vegetables to stay
Fast food is the cheapest and easiest source of food to access in America. It’s quick to get and tastes very good. Adolescents consume fast food on a regular basis, due to the wide accessibility and affordability of the food. While fast food is cheap, there are limited nutrients and subsistence in the food. Chemicals and carcinogens are commonly found in the ingredients used to produce Fast Food.
I should have listened to my parents when they scolded me to “Finish your plate, I can still see three pieces of broccoli.” What can I say? I was a stubborn child who, to this day will not touch anything with a hint of potato. I never realized how vital vegetables were to a diet until that’s all I could, or would, eat. My epiphany began in my sophomore biology class, as my favorite teacher excitedly stood in front of the classroom labs to declare “We are starting dissections!”
is also in the upper percentile in the overall amount of people obese. These alarming statistics should be enough reason to allocate more resources towards the physical education of our population starting at an early age. We should not only be teaching young kids the importance of sufficient exercise, but also the implications of consuming junk food. With an increasingly fast-paced society we tend to forget to eat a proper nutritious diet. From my perspective, the convenience and over-marketing of junk food is the main reason why kids seem to be drawn towards processed foods.
Although you may think that junk food is good for your body and doing you justice, but it's really not. It's the healthy foods that are doing it such as; vegetables, fruits, and milk. Fruits and vegetables when eaten, give kids the right nourishment
Ensuring and encouraging schools to offer more fruits and vegetables to the students is a way of incorporating these foods into a child’s daily diet. There are a number of articles written on fast food consumption and obesity. A study performed in Michigan on fast food and obesity states , “the main reason that Michigan adults go to fast-food restaurants is that they are quick and convenient (64%). Over eating and unhealthy eating may result in obesity and other medical health problems. Fast food is high in fat content and calories and gives that temporary full feeling making it easy and convenient.
Research shows that children eat more without realizing when they are served larger amounts. Vegetable and fruit intake is dwindling down in youth diets. French fries are the most common “vegetable” that children eat making up twenty-five percent of their intake. Fruit juices are 40% of the fruit intake for children. Because of the shift in cultural norms, there are more unhealthy foods at convenience versus the healthy food that used to be found in many
Therefore, there is less diversity of vegetables for consumers to try at the supermarkets. Kingsolver’s complaints however focus on private companies doing what is best for their business when growing food. However, she is qualified to speak on this topic with a lot of experience
ROUGH DRAFT For the past few years in the United States school lunches did not have healthy programs that could help kids with their nutritional balance, now in days the government create a new program that can help school to have a better nutrition. School lunch’s in the United States need to be healthier, they are critical for the wellbeing of the majority of people from 6 to 18, and also set the pattern for a healthy life style throughout adulthood. First, in the United States most of the children’s need to be healthier because the food they consume is the energy they need for the rest of the day “when children’s don’t eat healthy lunch, it is harder for them to concentrate at school and to master the energy for after school activities
Thirdly, making the school lunch unhealthy is not going to make the child have a healthy lifestyle. Some kids could go to school and have a healthy lunch and then go home and eat an unhealthy dinner. When kids go home and eat they are not thinking about whether the food is healthy or not. All kids want to eat is junk food and candy whether it is at home or school.
“Let your food be your medicine and your medicine be your food” (Hardy, 2006). The Greeks followed this idea by the philosopher Hippocrates, but today’s society does not take the message seriously. A majority of people eat harmful foods and do not receive the nutrition they need to stay healthy. There are a number of reasons why nutrition is lacking. A lot of teens and college students eat snacks that are not healthy such as chips, pop, candy, etc.

As the TIME article states, student athletes, especially in high school, need more calories in their bodies to prevent backlash, and be ready for the sport that they participate in. Even though some say that junk food will make student athletes less healthy and won’t provide enough energy while the students are participating in the school activity, I respectfully disagree with that statement, because it will make them more energized, and it will make them feel better instead of playing on an empty stomach. This is saying that junk food will provide more calories, and they will be getting more because they are eating junk food. Schools should allow junk food in their cafeteria and in their hallways because students would decide to eat their school lunches, it would bring in more profit to the school serving it, and it will also provide the student athletes with calories to be strong and healthy for their games. Are the food restrictions, we have now, really what the students and the parents want?
Imagine a school that has multiple healthy school food options, that is worth standing in line for. I think that all schools should have a healthy school lunch. It's very important to have nutritious school lunches so that we can be healthy and have energy during the school day. I think we should have better and healthier school menus. Our school menus are very high in cholesterol and saturated fat.
It affects the shape of our bodies and it helps us grow into adults in a good and bad way. b. Reason to Listen: Unfortunately, not all food is good for us. These types of food are known as junk food. We all know the term “junk food” but what is the actual definition of junk food you may ask?
