Skills For Effective Reading It is one of the eldest habits of people. Reading is a personal dynamic process, that allows an individual to gain knowledge skills and information. It gives him a direction in life, and how to control his feelings. Reading is the process of thinking as it differs from one individual to another. The person chooses its goals and objectives of reading and does it according to it. Education depends mainly on books, so if someone needs to study, he needs to know the skills for effective reading. It is an ability that requires learning, practice and exercise. Your reading skill will be very effective if you have a high understanding ability. In order to do it right there are actions to be done before reading, during reading and after reading. Before reading; in order for it to be effective, the reader should set his goals and answer questions like: Why am I reading ? What is the purpose of reading? And etc. Putting goals and objectives is important for the understanding process. Choose your place of reading. The chosen place is necessary to be a place free of distractions that prevent you from understanding and decreases your concentration. The reader should be away from noise for it needs a quite place. Before starting to go into details, choose your way of reading. Before reading look out the title, date, the writer, the introduction, the appendix and the conclusion, it also important to take a general idea about the book and its concept. Write the following questions on a paper: What is the writer looking in his book? What is the importance of the information provided? How the writer arranges is ideas? What is the topic and concept of the book? And etc… During reading you should find the answers of these questions. All of these questions make your reading more effective. The more the questions are clear and many, the more the reading is powerful and effective. Fluency and knowledge of the language is also a skill, that you acquire during your life, it is needed because a person with weak language and that has difficulties in fluency will have problems in understanding and effective reading. Vocabulary is also important, a person who has a good pile of vocabulary will find easier to read and understand. After reading, there are also other actions to be done. After finishing your work, you should not end your relation with the book, you have to follow up to ensure that you understood the book well. For “installing” the information, you should revise what you read. But before revising you should ask several questions such as: What are the topics I need to revise? How much time I need for revision period? What are my weaknesses and strengths.
