When we talk about electing new leaders and replacing the old ones in the government here in the Philippines, election comes in our mind first. Philippines is running a democratic government, everyone is given a chance to vote. Since election is fast approaching, people started to register and elective politicians started to campaign. Election process is very important when it comes in formal decision-making in electing individual to run under the general law to serve the people. It has its own rules. Election process becomes unfair when corruption is implemented inside or outside the process or some officials breaking the rule. The purpose of having an efficient election process is to have a smooth flow and to be fair in choosing or electing leaders who run in the said position. The said rules used to …show more content…
Regardless with the right process, the system of respecting and not changing the rules of election process is not applied by some elective leaders who wanted instant higher positions and COMELEC officials who wanted money from elective candidates who pay them to manipulate the process.
Election process becomes unfair because of elective candidates corrupt the process. We cannot deny of the issue that some officials tend to change the election process. They tend to tamper and defy some rules in the election process. But as we all notice, elective officials are not the only ones who defy some of the rules like in candidacy but also the one who process the election. In many countries that haves no high standard rule of law, the most common reason why elections do not meet international standards of being "free and fair" is interference from the corruption of the government itself. Election officials, candidates, dictators may use the powers of the executive (police, martial law, censorship, physical implementation of the election mechanism, etc.) to remain in power despite popular opinion in favour of removal. Members of a particular place in the legislation may
This system will allow, each voter to not only elect a candidate but to select their preferences. This would end the spoiler dynamic of third party and independent candidates and consistently produce a majority nationwide winner. By eliminating the candidate with the lowest number of votes and picking the candidate with the highest votes will be a new system introduced in modern
Much of what makes the campaigns corrupted is that companies help fund the elections or mainly give the candidates the money to run. This leads to the majority of the fiancé corruption in the campaigns, because they give money to the candidate and they want something in return for it. What would really help in these elections is limiting the political action committees influence in these elections. This could be done by actually enforcing two laws that are set to make this not
The corrupt and unjust have held power for so long, and while they may
Thus, many types of power are corruptible, the power of the people does not abstain from such corruption. However, it
The Electoral Commision should altogether be abolished or if the chance came, modified, because of the following reasons,
Cons In an election reform, elections are underfunded and need to save money for proper equipment and trained personnel to keep uniformed ballots for federal elections, and universaol poll-closing time (Ornstein 2001, p. 16). By not having enough finances, the technology for the ballots are not always updated and there should only have one easy ballot with the same exact choices while having times for ballots opening and closing at the same time according to time
This is referred to as “Consent of the Government” and plays a big role in determining what the government does. In reality, the people run the country and it would be smart for the government to take full recognition of this. The consent of the government states that the authority of a government should depend on the consent of the people (Document C). When the government chooses not to take this into account, there can sometimes be negative consequences. An example of this would be in 1989 in Tiananmen Square in China.
The primmest of them include the voter fraud. This generally happens when someone uses other person’s identity and cast votes. Another cases that have happened over the years was that the one used multiple times to do the polling. In order to stop this voter Identification serves as the perfect medium as people would be allotted with an identification a while polling that identification could be cross checked and thus the exact where about the person’s identity can be known. This won’t allow the frauds to fool around and thus proper justification could be
Legislative redistricting in nature is a simple concept. However, the implication of legislative redistricting arises complications. Redistricting is a powerful tool used by our government. It influences how a state will be represented and in turn how the people will be represented. The misuse of this power can lead to catastrophic consequences.
It allows them to use tactics such as packing and cracking which can have a tremendous impact on elections. Packing is when politicians draw out district maps for each party based on population. Packing can swing the vote because the population of one party could out weight the population of the minority party within the same district, causing the entire district to swing with the majority. Voters feel that the other tactic, cracking, gives them a disadvantage because the political parties are being spread out between multiple districts which causes one district to have the majority party in multiple areas (King, Elizabeth). When the politicians of the party in power have drawn out the voters’ map, they maintain power over the lines of the map.
One of the things that makes America so great is its election process. The US elections are fair and not rigged by the people in power(as far as the public knows.) Despite this, there are still some people who try and get the elections to go one way. This is called voter fraud. Voter fraud can take many different forms, switching ballots, tampering with results, pressuring voters, and voting in the place of others.
Regular free and fair elections is an example of this. In regular free and fair elections, people get to have a voice in elections. Document 6: Engraving of Virginia’s House of Burgesses says, “This legislature was made up of representative chosen by popular vote. Eventually, every colony in America would have such a legislature.”
Electoral college has been with us since the birth of the constitution, and to this day we are still using this type of system to this day. The Electoral College is a system that the United States uses to elect our upcoming presidents and vice presidents. Each state has electors equal to their senate member and house of representatives, however who ever gets the highest popular vote in the state gets the electoral vote. The issue is the Electoral College do not give votes to the people, but to the states. Which has some unfair consequences.
Since everyone contribute to this system, free riding problem can be completely avoided. A significant drawback of this rule is that reaching unique outcome is time-consuming, especially for large number of voters and large number of alternatives. It requires long term renegotiations over again. that
Many people believe that the election plays the most important role in democracy. Because a free and fair election holds the government responsible and forces it to behave on voter's interest. However, some scholars find evidence that election itself is not enough to hold politicians responsible if the institutions are not shaping incentives in a correct way. In other words, the role of the election on democracy, whether it helps to serve the interest of the public or specific groups, depends on other political institutions. I
