English as a global language English is without doubt a global language, and is widely used as a form for communication across different cultures. One can find English speakers in almost every part of the world, since more than 350 million people around the world has English as their first language and more than 430 million has it as their second language. One could say the globalisation of English first started with the colonies the British Empire ruled over. Making the British settlers in these countries introduce English to these new destinations. Also in newer days the globalisation continues. Mainly because of more communication by way of social medias and international conglomerates, other medias, and also because people travel and …show more content…

To not experience an excessively big culture clash this is a reasonable destination. Also, I would not need any visas or so, since England as well as Norway is in EU. The flight to England is short, which would make visits to Norway prominent cheaper and easier. I do not see which other intercultural challenges of importance I would meet other than difficulties in conjunction with language by living in England. Of course challenges other than intercultural would arise as for instance living by myself, making friends, organising a budget and so on. Studying abroad is a lot more rewarding than studying for the same degree in your own country. One of my key reasons for why studying abroad, especially in England, is developing my English skills. Choosing English as a subject at upper secondary school is definitely not the same as learning the language in a language where it is an official lan guage. Learning does not only happen at the school premises, and actively learning a language every second of the day is very good practise. One is surrounded by native speakers everywhere, and forced into speaking English wherever one is.
