ETHICS IN SCHOOL
Meaning
Ethics is a science that deals with the ideals involved in human conduct. In other words, it is the rules or standards, governing the conduct of a person or the conduct of the members in a profession. It relates to the social rules that influence a person to be honest while dealing with other people. The word “ethics” is originated from a Greek word Ethos which means character or manner.
Introduction
Ethics are concerned with the moral actions of human beings. We can see the practice of ethics in almost every profession. In schools, ethics applies to the management board, administration, teachers and most importantly students. For each entity, a code of ethics is created either from within the educational institution, through professional organizations or by both. Here the code of ethics provides ethical standards that people associated with the school, as discussed above, are expected to follow in conjunction with each other as laid by the decision-making bodies. In India, the code of professional Ethics for School Teachers is followed as per the instructions laid down by National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE).
Ethics in school, deals with educational activities that takes place in every school. The study of ethics is learning how other people think and make decisions and to see what moral standards they follow. It is also comparing ethics of the past to the present, and from one culture to another. As well as, seeing if people follow the ethical standards that they say they do. Ethics are in the everyday life, we make decisions based on what we believe. We ask ourselves if it is right or just or does it benefit us.
Ethics is deciding what is right or wrong using ones moral principles. These two work hand in hand and are supposed to be followed by all businesses and employees. In short Professionalism is what is expected and ethics are what is expected not to do. Application to Movie In the movie
Sometimes the decision is made to bring in an external professional to work with the school. This may be necessary if children require specialist assessments if concerns are raised by staff or parent/carers. Although there are many different types of professionals I am going to explain the role of three professionals. Speech therapist work with children who have difficulties with speech, language and communication or eating, drinking and swallowing. They identify the causes of the speech difficulty and create speech and language programmes.
Morality is a set of values held by a person in making when judging and evaluating what is deemed right or wrong, good or bad (Brandt, 1959). When we talk about morality in counseling it’s about the reasoning by the counselor that has four levels. They are, personal intuition, ethical guidelines established by professional organizations, ethical principles and general theories of moral action (Kitchener, 1984). Ethics is described as adopted principles that has relations to man’s behavior and moral decision making (Van Hoose & Kottler, 1985). Ethics is often thought as a synonym to morality.

My Personal Code of Ethics as an Education Leader As an educator, and conceivable future educational leader, my personal code of ethics is one that envelops uprightness, correspondence, respect, imparted objectives, sympathy, open-mindedness, and confidentiality. A leader recognizes what is correct and utilizes it to make the best decision paying little mind to personal danger. I will utilize this personal code of ethics when settling on decisions including ethical issues and to guide my profession. I accept the focal and most basic reason for an educational leader is: To foster a dream for the organization as a learning community that respects the characteristic worth and abilities of every person and that fosters the planning of students
The concept of ethics entails systemizing, justifying, and recommending right and wrong conduct. It involves in practical reasoning: good, right, duty, obligation, virtue, freedom, rationality, and choice. Humanity has questioned this concept of ethics and ‘good’ for as long as it has survived, as it deals with real-life issues such as “what is morally right and wrong?” and “how do people ought to act?”
Ethics can be explained as principles a society develops to guide decisions about what is right and wrong. Ethical principles that society has are influenced by religion, history, and experience of the people in the group. Meaning that ethics is based on guidelines we have learned while growing up, that helps us differentiates what is right and what is wrong. For example, some people think health care should be a human right as others think it should only be available to those who can pay for it. Each group of people is guided by the principles they believe in.

For the sense of business according to Joseph (2013), ethics are constructed and decided by each business and underpins decision that an employee makes. When it comes to the business’ environment, a well-constructed ethics is a key for a considerate and responsible decision making in a business (Bennett, 2014). Business Ethics is very important inside the company, it will show the moral standards that a company or business have whether it is right or wrong and good or bad.
Introduction Nowadays, ethics and integrity has played a vital role in our daily lives especially in the workplace. Ethics is defined as being concerned with judgements involved in the moral decision, whether it is good or bad, true and fair (Velasquez 1999); whereas, integrity is defined as the honesty and having strong moral principles in reporting. The purpose of this assignment is to find out and understand how importance of ethics and integrity has played in the business and workplace. Ethics in education are crucial as it sets the standards of what is acceptable and what is not. It has been given a lot of significance over the years and this is why it has been included in the subject courses for students to understand ethics. In education, ethics is applicable on both teachers as well as students. While as teachers it is our duty to make students aware about these ethics in our virtues or moral education classes, at the same time, the school administrators with ministry of education ensures that we as teachers familiarise with ethics which are relevant to our profession. As ethical teachers, we play a very vital role in students’ life, by not just imparting knowledge but also helping in the development of a student’s personality.
As children, we were taught by our parents that it is wrong to lie, cheat, and steal. As we grow up and enter into the real world with some knowledge of right and wrong, we see, first hand, the importance of ethics as well as its complexity. The role of ethics in our society and in an individual’s life is very necessary because it has a large influence on today, as well as the future. We need to learn about good ethics because they guide our decisions, make us who we are, and determine our future.
Merriam-Webster dictionary defines ethics as, “the discipline dealing with what is good and bad and with moral duty and obligation.” Righteousness and virtuous are a few words I would use to define the term ethics. But where do our ethics truly arise from? From birth, we begin to learn things from our homes and community that shapes the way we view things. The cycle of socialization as describe by Bobbie Harro in Readings for Diversity and Social Justice plays a huge role in determining what values and ethics we carry on throughout our lifetime.
