A family maybe defined as a cultural construct of political, traditional, social and religious values acted out by individuals. Every human defines family in their own terms and hence different meanings maybe attached to it. A family in my understanding can be viewed as a set of people, united by blood or adoptive ties, sharing a common set of ideas, values, or beliefs and bonded
CHAPTER ONE INTRODUCTION 1.1 Family Traditions: An Introductory Note A discussion of the significance of family traditions in any context, poetry or otherwise, includes a definition of two related terms “family” and “tradition” because both form an integral part of family traditions. The word “family” is difficult to define in simple terms. It is a subjective concept with different meanings that evolves and changes, depending on various factors: cultural, sociological, environmental, and/or economic. However, it is commonly agreed that family is a basic “social unit created by blood, marriages, and can be described as nuclear (parents and children) or extended (encompassing relatives).”1 While the word “tradition” is a loaded keyword derived
“Foundation of Family” Family is the fundamental building block of all societies. It is all inclusive across generations and cultures. Based on the epic poem The Odyssey and current families today, we see that family is where we learn to love ourselves and each other, to bear one another’s burdens, to find meaning in our life and to give purpose to other’s lives, and to feel the value of being part of something greater than ourselves. Family is where we experience our biggest triumphs, deepest vulnerabilities, and where we have the greatest potential to do good. The love of a family is life’s greatest blessing.
This tells us the concept ‘family’ can be understood as ties of common understanding leadership and major decision making. Mogotlane also noted that households are usually complex and not all of the time made up of siblings from same families. With this notion it can be said that currently what makes family and household cannot only be determined by blood ties and affinal relations but networks and social support. Zweig’s
Still others grew up with just knowing one parent and not ever questioning where their other parent was. On the other hand, some might even view “family” as the friends they surround themselves with. However, when it comes to family culture, that holds more of a broader definition due to the range in family dynamics. Family culture is defined as, “attitudes, ideas and ideals, which a person inherits from his or her parents and ancestors.” For example, author and writer Hannah Brencher stated in her book If You Find This Letter that growing up her mom would leave letters for her to find at home. When Hannah found herself riding the subway to New York one day, she decided to leave letters to strangers for them to find.
Family unity is an essential part of my life. My family in many ways works like a team. When I hear the word family, I think of the adjectives loving, caring, supportive, closeness, and chaotic. My family is all of the above. No family is the same, mine is definitely unique.
Family is about those who accept you for who you are, and support you in every decision. It is the people in life who love and respect you regardless of each other’s differences. It means feeling a sense of security when being around them, being able to share each other’s problems but also respect and be responsible of one another. Family means you are part of something very special where you will love and be loved for the rest of your
In this enhanced world, we can’t simply deny that technology has become an important thing in everyone’s life. However, people’s independence on technology has affected their creativity and communication. Some of them even misuse the technology in their daily life causes them to gain unbeneficial things from technology. We can see clearly that most people in the world use technology in their daily routine. The most common technology we can see is smartphone.
“Family” is a hard word to create a concrete definition for. If one were to ask three random people on the street, it is likely they will receive three completely different answers to defining a family. The textbook definition of family according to the etymology dictionary is: “Origin in early 15c. “servants of a household” from Latin familia “family servants, domestics collectively, the servants in a household.” The traditional dictionary describes family in a more narrow fashion stating, “a basic social unit consisting of parents and their children, considered as a group, whether dwelling together or not.” One thing to note is that the traditional dictionary is not gender specific on who constitutes as parents, leaving the definition open
Family is just a simple way of defining a number of people who are either related by blood, through intermarriages between people and maybe adopting. As for me family is those whom care for me and we share a close bond. The best thing to happen to a nuclear family is to get a child or children who can be natured to be prominent and respectable people. A Childs development to the society is built by family values that are either gathered from the Childs parents, siblings or even distant relatives. Because family values are well known to be moral or ethical beliefs that are reinforced within the family that consist of high moral standards.
