Kenan Bardhaj Does foreign aid really help the recipient countries? I come from Kosovo, country that used a lot of international foreign aid through the years. I was by myself part of this story, part of this history. Through all these years I understood importance of having foreign aid from others when this aid is a need for you. I remember a time when as a student I have been refuge in Macedonia, homeless and without any penny in my pocket. I was subject of foreign aid, I appreciated it. In our days, we see different people around the world facing with a lot of social and economical difficulties, extreme poverty, hungry, natural disasters, conflicts and emergences. In these circumstances rational people should react and provide needed support …show more content…
This aid encourages development of financially unstable economies to improving quality and quantity in production and increase of employment. To illustrate this, investments in Agriculture in undeveloped countries, financed by USAID and other international programs, have increased level of productivity and level of quality in food production. In addition, agro Investments in undeveloped countries had positive impact in increase of number of people employed in this sector. Also, financial aid in undeveloped countries creates possibilities to the producers to have better access in new technologies and this fact have positive impact in their production process. In addition, foreign aid in undeveloped countries helps to save people lives from different diseases and it also improves development of health care system and health care technology. For instance, international community is participating in Africa with health experts in order to prevent diseases such as Ebola and other epidemical diseases. Or, World Bank has supported government of Kosovo in health sector by establishing mandatory health insurance reform. This reform will develop and improve the quality and efficiency of health care system in Kosovo. USAID and EU member states invested in several hospitals in Kosovo with medical equipment and …show more content…
We can see these problems every day and they are present everywhere. As we can understand from all of this, foreign aid helps undeveloped countries to build their institutions from scratch after conflicts. Another important fact is that this aid, save people lives in cases of natural disasters such as: emergencies, conflicts, earthquakes, floods, and other similar disasters. In addition foreign aid helps different countries in: development of their economies, health care and educational system, in order to create better living standards for all people around the world. After all I strongly believe that foreign aid is important in our days because there are always people in need that lives in different parts of the world. We have to keep in mind that people in need and countries in need will always be part of our everyday life. These people have to be supported by rich people because as rational human being we have moral obligation toward them. We should always be persistent to help each other, regardless our color, race or
Foreign aid nurtures growth and gives other countries an equal chance to develop and thrive. The U.S. devotes a portion of the federal budget to building defense against foreign disasters because the condition of the world depends on
From a young age were taught that everyone needs help and that we should always try to help others. We tended to want to do our part no matter how small to help others but is that always a good thing by helping are we really helping or just creating future problems? In “Lifeboat Ethics” by Garrett Hardin, Hardin tries to reason with those people who always want to help he explains why foreign aid is not beneficial for any party involved. The author uses pathos appeal to address the audience’s values, beliefs, and assumptions about foreign aid. He understands that most of his audiences believe that if they can help then they should.
One example is a large non-governmental organization by the name of Medecins Sans Frontieres. The organization is one that delivers medical aid to different countries. They have helped over seventy countries total. Medecins Sans Frontieres wanted to open a feeding center for Ethiopia but were rejected by Ethiopian authorities. Kelala, a region in Ethiopia had more than six thousand children suffering from serious malnutrition.
Seeding the future talks about the alternatives that could be done to help poor countries. For instance, Paarlberg mentions that Westerners must appreciate the modern technology, they have to make food cheap and healthy for them, unlike poor countries that do not have access to modern technology, thereby facing high prices in essential foods (Paarlberg, 143). Also, foreign assistance to support agricultural improvements in poor countries would actually benefit them, as it has a strong record of
Advanced Concept 1 – World Wide Poverty During the interview, Dr. Paul Farmer commented about healthcare infrastructure in the United States and other under-developed countries. He also emphasized about the importance of community-based healthcare when used with institutionalized healthcare. Dr. Farmer served for the United Nations as an envoy, and helped Rwanda and Haiti to build its healthcare infrastructure. He also helped many other countries such as Peru, Mexico and Russia using his expertise.
Canada is recognized in some countries as a donor and others, not at all and to further develop our good relation to as many countries as we can, we have to be there to help in the time of a crises which will not only help that country, but also help Canada as well so that they will benefit from the foreign aid and also us too. Canada’s foreign aid increase will be very beneficial to us and the developing nations and will help us either way at the
But behind all of this; millions of innocents suffer. While others should be thankful to "have freedom" and "been born birds"8. It is unacceptable what many "are doing to ourselves" (Immaculee 75). The way that mankind looks at less developed countries should be re-evaluated, specially at countries in Africa. The smaller amount of worldwide political powers should not classify a country as worth helping
From the very beginning, however, aid was not a purely altruistic endeavour as the United States of America (US) needed a strong Europe to continue to purchase its exports and therefore keep the US economy going (Firth 2011: 286). As a result of the aid, Europe flourished, and so did the US economy. Foreign aid today continues to primarily be political and promotes the interests of the country
The issue surrounding the wealthy class and their abundance of money is one that has been prominent for a long time. For many, the seemingly endless fortune these elite class people sit on has been deemed to be unfair and unnecessary, especially when there are people around the world who are not making enough money to obtain basic necessities. Peter Singer, a professor of bioethics, believes that the solution to this monetary problem is for the wealthy to simply donate money they don’t use on basic necessities back to the people in need. Although giving back to the less fortunate could potentially help in fixing many problems, prosperous people should not be obligated to donate money they “don’t need” to various organizations because since
People around the world are poor and we dont stop to help them poverty is killing many .We, those on the very bottom, who are poverty-stricken, can do little about it. Within our rank, we are equal. Very few of us have talents or extraordinary abilities, and next to zero can or know how to use them. Our voices mean nothing. Those in the middle class can speak out and vote, but rarely do, and even when they do, they are easily ignored by most of the affluent scum who care only for themselves.
From war to hunger and famine to homelessness, there are too many people who instead of using their resources to make the world a better place by providing a positive influence, are selfish and stash their riches away for themselves or
Foreign aid is not actually beneficial to those countries going through disasters, and needs to be updated. If the money people from around the world are donating to a specific cause isn’t actually going to help those it says it will directly, than the system is corrupt and needs to change. Personally, I am in agreeance with Katz argument on foreign aid. I believe that this “aid” isn’t benefiting anyone, neither the people offering donations nor those trying to receive
If Americans were to send all the excess money overseas, they would not have a comfortable amount of money if something unexpected were to come up that they had to pay for. Several Americans have had unpredictable events happen in their life, including the death of a loved one or an illness they were not expecting. Even today, many Americans do not have enough money to pay for these unforeseen events. If they were to send all their excess money away they may not have any support from others as well, which may put them in the same predicament as those they were trying to help. Another con for sending all the excess money to overseas aid groups would be that this has failed in the past.
The consequence of wars, the political turmoil in countries or simply a country in debt; these all warrant a need for foreign aid. Although it may seem like the obvious act to do, is it really the right thing to do? It is firstly important to note what is the fundamental characteristic of foreign aid and what it entails, both for a country providing and the country receiving it. The aspect of aid can take many forms, ranging from goods and services or capital from foreign country to country in need. As situations in different countries continue to take new forms, aid can also be provided concerning military, economic means, etc.
The foreign aid program is created to bring an end to poverty, conflicts and other difficulties that poor-developed countries are enabled to solve it. Everything is not about money, but it is about power, political view or group society. In many well-developed countries, corruption and political control are being reviewed by the UN and other governance, because they could be penalized or have sanctions. In a less-developed country that are already being helped with foreign aid, the governance and other aid programs must have their hands tied when it comes to penalized or sanctioned, because they are already in need, therefore corruption is created in those less-developed countries and hunger follows. There is the end of hungriness that is currently trying to be solved in the world, but there are still conflicts with political control that keeps the foreign aid to cause hunger in
