Fourier analysis and its practical uses In this essay I will demonstrate the fundamental contributions Fourier analysis brings to the digital audio industry. Fourier analysis has been a mark in history as it is a foundation not only for mathematics but in engineering, technology and science all combined. It is considered one of the most important discoveries of all time and was founded in 1822 by Baron Jean Baptiste Joseph Fourier, so long ago and yet still very valid to this day. The main concept portrayed by Fourier analysis is; one complex signal can be broken down into its fundamental signals or basic trigonometric functions. It may be hard to understand at first, a good analogy is if you think of how a speaker replicates what we have …show more content…

Some more uses of Fourier analysis include: Equalisation of audio with accuracy, transportation of signals, such as radio broadcasts to, Fourier analysis is used to decrypt the sent radio broadcast frequency and play back the intended audio sent by the broadcast station. Fourier analysis is used for spectrograms; visual representations of frequencies in all types of signals, even heat waves. Spectrograms are exceptionally significant in all branches of study, this will be elaborated on …show more content…

However the concepts behind the uses of Fourier analysis and transforms have been explained. In the case of radio broadcasting the machines are processing the signal that we tune our radios to. That signal or frequency is the resonance frequency the Fourier transform responds to. Behind the scenes the receiver circuitry is using FFTs to de-modulate the broadcasted signal carrier AM radio wave. Here’s an image to reinforce the
