This freedom day weekend is the 23rd Anniversary of South African democracy. 27 April marks the first vote by Former president Nelson Mandela at a High school in Inanda Kwa-Zulu Natal.

More than two Decades later we have the chance to celebrate the long weekend consisting of Freedom day ending of with Workers day. This long weekend if are looking for a chance to reflect and learn from the past and enjoy the weekend with family and friends, this is a rundown of places and events you can go to on the long weekend. My Jozi Top 5.

Constitutional Hill -27 April (Freedom Day)

Built on the notorious old Fort Prison Constitutional Hill is home to the country 's celebrated Constitutional Court. Situated in the heart of Johannesburg next to Braamfontein it is a great place that gets both the young and the old, educated on the significance of the place. This place holds the history of prominent activists and freedom fighters (among them Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela) being imprisoned there. …show more content…

The Fact that the Brickwork from the prison was used in the construction of the court adds a special touch and indicates the scarifies made for democracy, serving as a reminder of the sacrifices that were made for democracy.

Back To the City- 27 April (Freedom Day)

Africa 's annual biggest hip hop festival Back to the City Is once again taking place in Newtown Mary Fitzgerald Square. The festival celebrates hip-hop culture with a line-up that serves heat. The line-up this year consist of International act Apollo Brown and Skyzoo and south African heavy weights Kwesta, Cassper , Kidx and newcomers TLT , Weza and Meg Mafia.
