Leadership involves the ability to guide subordinates towards achieving shared goals and influencing them to emulate the thought processes and actions of the guiding figure. Leaders tend to exhibit relational-oriented and task-oriented behaviors and employees tend to be highly satisfied when they view their supervisors exhibiting both these forms of behavior (Watt, 2013). Effective leadership involves implementation of various workplace-related activities, for example, creating commitment, motivating employees, arousing enthusiasm and passion and inspiring subordinates and all of these actions involve some form of communication or the other. Leadership also involves some form of influence and takes place via effective communication. Due to work environments which are constantly changing, employees are more intelligent and educated compared to previous generations. Given this situation, leaders are required to spearhead strategies within the team through means of effective negotiation.
