Plants provide food, feed, pharmaceuticals, fiber and shelter to human kind. Moreover, plants are used for aesthetic and other functional purposes in landscape and indoors. In addition, woody plants serve as a primary resource for employment generation by nurturing the handicrafts primary activity which plays key role in economy of the nation. The special nature of artisanal products derives from their distinctive features, which can be utilitarian, functional, traditional, culturally attached, decorative, functional, traditional, religiously and socially symbolic and significant. Handicrafts particularly, toy industry is one of the key export segments of Indian trade with significant contributions particularly from Uttar Pradesh. In recent years Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Pune have become the most important manufacturing sites of the Indian toy industry.
