They should be actively involved in its implementation and its importance in lifelong learning. Generally, students judge their own work against a given criteria, provide information on how they can improve on that work in future and then grade their work. When the word “formative” is used in conjunction with assessment or evaluation, it connotes an improvement process while the word “summative” is used to describe a decision making process. 2.6 Distinctions between Self-assessment and Self-evaluation Assessment and Evaluation are necessary and complementary in education. Educators use assessment and evaluation to help their students build lifelong learning skills.
This kind of learning promotes independence within the learner and helps in developing creativity. Therefore, I make sure that I revisit topics to enhance my learner’s knowledge. As Bruner [Ref.2] rightly said that learners use prior experience to fit new information into pre-existing models. Motivation is a very important factor in learning. Learners need to understand the reasons or areas where they can use knowledge and then only they can get themselves involved in thinking.
As a teacher, it is my responsibility to aid my students in developing the necessary skills that will further their self-regulated learning experience, and allow them to comprehend that using self-regulation strategies can directly influence their learning and grades. To do this, I would first have to select a behavior that I would like my students to be able to self-monitor, then collect baseline data to act as an objective benchmark for comparing pre and post strategy work, motivate my students to actively participate in self-monitoring, introduce the necessary procedures, allow my students to independently practice the strategies, and then evaluate how effective the strategy was for my students (Zimmerman, Bonner, & Kovach, 1996). These six stages of implementing self-regulation strategies into a classroom setting are vitally important as they benefit new teachers, such as myself; actualize the process of self-regulation among
USE QUESTIONING AND FEEDBACK TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE ASSESSMENT PROCESS UNIT 2, 6.4 LITERATURE REVIEW Harlen explains that there are two main reasons for assessing students: to help their learning and to report on what they have learned. He argues that researchers typically discuss these reasons as different purposes for assessment and “mistakenly as different kinds of assessments that are somehow opposed to one another” (Harlen, 2007b). How can they achieve the aim? When learners know and understand these principles, the quality of learning will improve. Sharing this information with my learners will promote ownership of the learning aims and a sense of shared responsibility between me the teacher and learner to achieve those aims.
What more! Create learning opportunities and allow space for individual approaches to learning. Most importantly in an effective teaching, teacher act as a facilitator and allows students to take responsibilities for their own learning but not indoctrinating knowledge to the students head. Teachers play a vital role in teaching and learning that enhance students to become independent and critical thinkers while modeling life-long learners. In addition, the role of a teacher is to reach the heart and mind of the children, expand their intellect and knowledge.
The lesson wheel is also focused on the learner by means of the SMART task that is formulated according to the ability and proficiency of the learners. In the process of planning a lesson with help of the lesson wheel, the learners’ strengths and weaknesses are taken into consideration. On account of learners constructing their own meaning of information, the information that they have to deal with should interest them. The pertinent question is the part of the lesson wheel that grasps the learners’ interest and therefore it is possible for them to construct meaning from the lesson. Vygotsky introduced the concept of the More Knowledgeable Other (MKO) (2016:61) and hence learners do not necessarily have to gain knowledge from the teacher.
Introduction Enhancing learning for students involves more than just being able to apply general learning and teaching principles or guidelines. In Educational Studies 1: Classroom Learning and Student Development, we have been learned about how students learn. Most importantly, it involves inquiry-based activities which familiarize us with the roles of teachers in promoting learning and catering for student diversity and individual differences. Throughout the past lessons, one of the most influential, inspiring theories is the theories of motivation to understand and improve educational processes, which means helping our students see the true value of what they are doing and giving them reasonable expectation of success in achieving it.
Review of the student(s) IEP may have created a preconceived notion towards the student(s). In order to receive special education, the labeling is created to assist the teacher in knowing the students background educational issues. This labeling should be used as a tool only instead of defining who the student is. Each student has different learning methods and it is up to the teacher to find the best way to teach each and every student. The IEP records are only used as a starting point for teaching the student and it is up to the teacher to know the students strengths and weakness in learning.
Before planning a lesson, you should always ask yourself what will help your students to learn best, and what kinds of activities would be most beneficial? It is also important as a teacher that you are constantly self-checking your teaching, and making sure you adapt your lessons and your teaching style if the students are not grasping a
Based on the teacher directed activities the teacher can decide which activities she can do with the learners for more effective learning or which of the activities can be done by the children to learn from active participation. 2- What is learning? To encourage learning in a classroom is any teacher’s goal and learning is a process it can take some time for one to find its own way of learning it is not a product that you can buy. If you prepare a lesson the lesson should lead learners through the course of their own learning methods and it should not just import knowledge to the learner. This can take a while and learning can change ones beliefs, attitudes or behaviour and knowledge.
