The NASW (2010) and the Texas Department of State Health Services provide a foundation on how social workers interacts with clients, colleagues, practice setting, and their environment. This code of ethics and Code of Conduct provide to the social workers with ethical responsibilities and values in practice setting. By analyzing this ethical responsibilities and values in practice setting it is easy to identify the ethical responsibilities I am currently using. The Texas Department of State Health Services [TDSHS] has a Code of Conducts for social workers that provides a standards of behaviors need to follow as to stay professional and avoid damaging clients’ lives and self. Over the course of the semester, my main goal was to become a more precise writer and develop my identity as a writer. According too, the Portfolio Letter assignment sheet, becoming a better writer consists of precise planning, draft and revising. It also includes understanding a variety of academic genres by examining the basic characteristics that defines each type. In order too efficiently meet my goal of becoming a better writer, it was very important to have my work evaluated by others and myself as well. The use of rhetorical knowledge, critical thinking, reading and writing all are the important aspects in this course. All of which helped tremendously with becoming a more precise writer and developing my identity as a writer.
From the outside, many students live consists of all happy moments. Some people hide their stories deep down within themselves to bury the problems they want to hide. In my senior year of high school, I remember seeing this one sophomore girl that was super cute, energetic and playful at my senior barbeque. Her smile was filled with love, but I could see that her eyes told a different story. A few weeks later, I found out that she was in my associate student body (ASB) class and was placed in the same group as me. Together we planned school dances and rallies for the rest of the year. Little by little, I got to know her more and she saw me as her older sister. The girl that I saw at my senior barbeque was filled with shattered memories of her childhood and I learned that she did not have a good fundamental support at home. I have always noticed that she had scars on her wrists that looked like they were from deep cuts, but I noticed she always wanted to hide them. One day, I noticed that the cut on her wrist looked really recent so I
I am thinking about my action plan as a writer have I improved, have I met the goals I set out to achieve on my first day of class, and what have I learned in this class? I will go over my time in this class and review the various topics I mentioned above and more. Looking back over my time in this class I will critique and praise myself. How I felt about writing when I first started this class compared to how I feel now, I would have to say I am more comfortable with writing. In this essay I will review how I have improved as a writer, my greatest challenges, and how has my writing changed from how it was at the start of class to now.
Writing is a vital part of everyday life for most people, especially for college students. With writing comes a process. My writing process is my personal experience of what works for you when writing. Writing is unique to each person; everyone doesn’t use the same writing process or have the same writing skills. There aren’t any specific order or steps for a writing papers, but rather what works best for you to get the job done. My writing process consists of pre-writing/ideas, first draft, second draft/revising, editing/proofreading, and finally my final draft.
I am interested in this program because I want to assist in clinical research at a top medical institution working to find new technologies and treatments for currently unmet medical needs, and the Brigham and Women’s hospital is an ideal fit. The clinical research I would be working on through this internship interests me because opioid use is a problem facing the medical field today and I want to help in researching new technologies to eradicate today’s opioid problem. The countdown to graduation has officially begun! A senior means I only have a few more courses to take. Of these courses, the field experience course is the one I have looked forward to since I declared my major because it is the pedagogy of my social work education. Last year, when school ended there was this nervousness and stress that was starting to consume me because of the unknown, this unknown was because I had no idea of where I would be doing my field placement. However, after I received an email from Dr. Russell describing a field placement at Western State Hospital (WSH) I became really excited and felt the stress and nervousness slipping away, but only for a moment. As I finished reading the email, I learned
I can consider my professional development experience in two parts: Before I became a teacher and after I became a teacher. During my teacher education at university I used to imagine myself as the teacher of that lesson and I used to try to draw some tips for my future job. I observed my teachers’ way of teaching, their rapport with students and their reactions. I always commented on why or why not they behave in that specific way and search for examples to be applied in my future job as a teacher. I believe that these observations provided me with some valuable and conclusive clues for my job. For example, one of my English literature teachers at university was the most outstanding example for me to be considered as an effective teacher.
Academic success to me is achieving good grades and understanding the material to get good grades. Academic success also means to have an good attendance. I already get mostly A’s and B’s, but I am not good at staying on top of things. To improve my academic success I will attend class more often, be more organized, pay attention in class, and not procrastinate.
It helped me to achieve all that I have today. If not for the many lessons I have learned whether positive or negative I would not be here today. From those experience I molded and shaped myself into the individual I wanted to be. Although, the majority of my school career is scattered over different schools. I think my wide array of experience is key to my diverse personality and my ability to adjust to environment quickly. Through these experiences I have learned how to deal with peers and superiors. I have always hated writing about myself, and I always dreaded assignments in school where I had to describe myself. I always wanted to avoid doing these assignments because I did not want to sound narcissistic, or self-absorbed. I dislike people like that now, because I used to be one of those people. It took many lessons learned before I humbled myself; I am still learning to humble myself today with recent experiences I have had. Although I hate to write about myself, I have always liked to reflect on myself. I spend a significant amount of time just thinking about myself as I go throughout my day. I constantly question myself: why am I the way that I am, what could I have done better here, what is my place in the world, etc. In the context of this paper, I have come to a conclusion. In the past, I was a leader. Now, I realized I have failed. Despite what my MBTI test may say, I am a leader no more.
In the shorter term (3 years), I want to graduate from HELP University’s Degree of Psychology in first-class honours. I understand claims stating such academic achievement is merely a graduation certificate, without guarantee of work opportunities. However, my aim is not motivated towards work opportunities or anything materialistic; I just want to appreciate and value every learning opportunity. Besides viewing this process as a foundation for future knowledge and abilities, I have been anticipating this stage of gaining deeper and professional knowledge in psychology for a long time. To summarize, this goal is elicited from my passion and enthusiasm for psychology, to remain focused throughout these three years, instead of gaining fame or impress others.
Being a teacher is a journey that has much to do with learning about yourself and being aware that what happens in your classroom reflects only on how are you with yourself. Teachers are not conscious that they project into students, and that affects how things go in the classroom.
The question posed in the title, “Who am I?” is very simple but the answers are never so. What defines me as who I am as a person today are relatively my attitude, my personal values and beliefs to life that developed throughout my life. “Values are constructs that we hold as important and beliefs are constructs that we hold to be true (Collins & Chippendale, 1995)”. Meanwhile, attitudes are relatively lasting clusters of emotions, beliefs, and behavior tendencies directed towards specific ideas, people or objects (Baron & Byrne, 1984). Generally, my family members, friends and the experiences I had contribute to my sense of who I am and how I view the world. With the aid of the two counseling theories, Roger’s personality theory and Adlerian personality theory, I managed to make a personal self-reflection on my values, attitudes, beliefs and how became who am I today.
