Kolkata, earlier known as Calcutta is the birthplace of eminent personalities such as Mother Teresa, Sir Ronald Ross, Rabindranath Tagore, C.V. Raman, Satyajit Ray and Amartya Sen and so it is rightly the City of Scholars. Kolkata, formerly Calcutta is the second-largest city of India in terms of covered area. It was the capital of British India till 1912. A major industrial center of India, Kolkata is often referred to as the ‘Paris of the East’ since so many different cultures have mingled here along with various industries. It is perfect example of modernity and old world charm. It is also called the ‘City of Joy’.

From childhood, she often accompanied her back to India-particularly to Calcutta (now known as Kolkata).. This finding was noted as one of the most important archaeological discovery of the 20 th Century. The African Burial Grounds have been overlooked for many years until 1991 during the construction of a federal office building. Indian Boarding schools were created in the 1800s to “Kill the Indian, Save the Man.” They achieved this by transforming the natives looks, culture, language, and teaching them a certain way so they would be able to function in a “european society”. Indian boarding schools taught students both academic and “real world” skills, but they did so while ripping the indians from their culture. Most indian boarding schools were the same with their tactics in transforming the native man into a white one.
I choose the Crystal River State Archaeological State Park in Crystal River , Florida. It is more commonly know as the Indian Burial Mounds. The park itself is in a beautiful location , overlooking the Crystal River on one side and grassy plains on the other side. There is recreational activities in the park as well as the museum. Some of the activities are salt and freshwater fishing , picnicking , bird watching and nature walks.

In order to raise awareness of the staggering injustices, oppression and mass poverty that plague many Indian informal settlements (referred to as slum), Katherine Boo’s novel, Behind the Beautiful Forevers, unveils stories of typical life in a Mumbai slum. There are discussions on topics surrounding gender relations, environmental issues, corruption, religion, and class hierarchies, as well as demonstrating India’s level of socioeconomic development. Encompassing this, the following paper will argue that Boo’s novel successfully depicts the mass social inequality within India. With Indian cities amongst the fastest growing economies in South East Asia, it is difficult to see evidence of this in the individual well-being of the vast majority of the nation. With high unemployment rates, the expansion of informal settlements and the neglect of basic human rights, one of India’s megacities, Mumbai, is a good representation of these social divisions.
