Some might say that this statement is not necessarily true, but it would very much depend on how one defines the term leadership. Leadership is a word that is tied up with any group of people working together. The word does not have the same meaning as leader. I choose to interpret the meaning as given by Jackson (2001): “Leadership can be seen to be located in the potential available to be released within an organisation. In essence, it is the intellectual capital of the organisation residing (sometimes dormant or unexpressed) within its members.” I rather like his interpretation of the word leader as well: “The role of the ‘leader’ … is to harness, focus, liberate, empower and align that leadership towards common purposes and, by so doing, to grow, to release and to focus its capacity” (ibid.). …show more content…

Success is not about one individual but rather how a team comes together to perform its work, especially in the school context. What are the different aspects of leadership in a school? Formal leadership in schools is a complex, multi−faceted task. (Knowledge Loom, 2008) Effective school leaders are strong educators, anchoring their work on central issues of learning and teaching and school improvement. They are moral agents and social advocates for the children and the communities they serve and they make strong connections with other people, valuing and caring for others as individuals and as members of the educational community,(ibid.). Leadership is multi-dimensional but also personal.
