In putting together my portfolio, I could definitely see that I have made an incredible progress from the foundation of this class. My practice of grammar, words and the general structure of my papers has improved massively. Reflecting on my strengths and weaknesses as a writer, as well as things I have learned in my own writing process is a big accomplishment. This spring semester, I supposed all my writings had both several strengths and weaknesses. I found that one of my strengths was how I was easily able to
A word recognition ability such as the explicit instruction of sight words maybe used by students who are facing problems in reading to increase their reading capacity (Alexander & Heathington (1988). Frantantoni (1999) mentioned that as good readers have a large sight word, they are different from poor readers. A largely familiar problem faced by learners through the ESL/EFL world is that of slow reading (Hamp-Lyons 1983; Cooper 1984). Logically, students all differ in their capacity to process and quickly name words. Though, this speed can depend on the amount and quality of exposures to the words (Rasinski, Blachowicz et al.
This year I have learned to get ahead in my English work, so my essays will be perfect. I know I am slow typer so I make sure I get ahead, so I will not be behind on my English material. Students learn that they should not procrastinate because the students ' work will not be perfect. I have learned that I have to my best in English class because in order to get into a good collage people have to get good grades. This project has prepared for collage because I have learned time management skills.
Form my personal experience, emergent bilinguals should study in bilingual program because it really helps them to learn the grade level content and the language. When I come to America, I went to a high school that has bilingual program, and it helped me to learn the subject materials by making me understand the topic through my native language. It was easier for me to understand the content first, and then I just need to translate it into English. I was not only need to finish all the required classes as other students, but I also needed to take ESL classes to develop my writing, listening, and speaking skill in English. Throughout the three years in high school, I was not only able to graduate on time, but also finished the class earlier than regular
Seeing Mrs. Groot was the start of something that would further shape my literacy development. In my mind, the years following my time with Mrs. Groot were full of success for reading and writing. Middle school and high school still provided opportunities for me to go to another room during study hall time. That provided me time with instructors who gave me one on one help with the subjects that I was
In the English learning literature, the development of a positive attitude towards learning could be attributed to Integrativeness, or the genuine desire to learn a new language so that one can communicate with the members of the community who use the language as their medium of communication (Dörnyei, 1998). However, as the world has become more borderless as exemplified by the EU and the ASEAN, other attitudinal factors were conceptually included. The additions were attributed to the changing of concept from ‘English is a second language to learn’ to ‘English as an international language’(Dörnyei & Ushioda, 2009). This resulted to the addition of other attitudinal factors that include Direct contact with English speakers (attitude towards actually meeting English speakers and travelling to their countries) ; Cultural interest (appreciation of cultural products from English speaking countries conveyed by the media); Miliu (the general perception of the importance of English in the learners’ friends and family) (Dörnyei & Ushioda, 2009). From the aforementioned attitudinal factors, the following hypotheses were
As I am near the end of my writing 102 course, I have been reflecting on my experience and studies this semester . while the course was focused on the study of English writing. The lessons that I took were extremely useful. I will demonstrate how did this course helped me improve my self knowledge, writing knowledge, and critical knowledge. The writing 102 course helped me understand many things about the way I think and they way I handle things, it improved my Self knowledge .When I left the writing 101 course and entered the writing 102 course I thought that this course would be very easy since it is similar to 101.
I like to learn new things in English, and I like to learn new things even more when they make sense to me. In the past English seemed to get better and better every year. Since we started to read more books in in class, I started to like English even more, since I like reading. The teachers in the past English classes seemed like nice people and the classmates were not so bad either. I like how every year in English the classes get harder and harder because then I have to use my brain even more.
While the age of the book suggests that some of the research could be obsolete, it serves as a reference and a foundational background on the subject of transference in writing patters, even between Asian and English scripts. Therefore, this book is useful in my area of research in the field of Japanese junior high school students beginning to learn writing in
At Princess Alia University Collage (PAUC), which is one branch of Al-Balqa Applied University (APU), English major students study English along approximately four years with relatively a large proportion of English compared to other subjects. The concern, however, is the quality of teaching and learning English language via modern technologies. People are living in a technological era, so privilege belongs to those who can make full use of it. Therefore, using technological advances to improve online chatting interaction for Non-Native learners could be available and an easy solution to employ FTF conversation in accordance to cooperative principles of the linguist
