The modern family is more diverse and open than it was thirty years ago. There are many types of families’ arrangements (for example nuclear families, single parent families, cross generational families, foster families etc), and the differences between them are substantial and related to the social and cultural conditions. Family unit is an integral part of society and for this reason it is in the constant interaction with society. It is organized within social system and it evolves with together with its changes. The institution of the family has passed through the several stages of evolution and was influenced by many social and economic factors, which has resulted in appearance of its present form, namely the modern family. This means that there is no ideal work-life balance to be achieved, but it always depends on every single persons and specific conditions. The best work-life balance varies from person to person, because we all have different priorities, plans and different expectations from life. Furthermore, the ideal work-life balance, changes over time and it is dynamic interaction between demands of employer and employee. Achieving the right balance for today may change tomorrow. Studies have shown that children growing up in poverty-stricken single parent households are more likely to be affected well into adulthood. In contrast to its title, Modern Family promotes traditional gender roles and stereotypes of women, which result in the portrayal of an inaccurate image of the female, and weakens the stance of women in today’s U.S. society. Gender stereotypes are prevalent throughout the Modern Family; the women are all portrayed as wives and mothers, promoting a continued male dominant family ideology. The comedy combined with diversity and great acting makes this show attracting to a broad range of viewers and proves that everyone loves a good laugh. One reason Modern Family has been a continued success over the years is their dedication to what the show was made to be, a comedy.
I would like to reflect upon how I manage my work priorities and professional development. In doing so I would go on to explain how I serve as a positive role model in the workplace through personal work planning and organisation, how I ensure personal work goals, plans and activities reflect the organisation’s plans, and own responsibilities and accountabilities. Then I will explain how I measure and maintain personal performance in varying work conditions, work contexts and contingencies, take initiative to prioritize and facilitate competing demands to achieve personal, team and organizational goals and objectives, use technology efficiently and effectively to manage work priorities and commitments, maintain appropriate work/ life balance, and ensure stress is effectively managed and health is attended to. Subsequently, I will discussion on how I assess personal knowledge and skills against competency standards to determine development needs, priorities and plans, seek feedback from employees, clients and colleagues and use this feedback to identify and develop ways to improve competence, identify, evaluate, select and use development opportunities suitable to personal learning style/s to develop competence. Finally, I will look into how I undertake participation in networks to enhance personal knowledge, skills and work relationships, identify and develop new skills to achieve and maintain a competitive edge.
