Tourism has now become a significant contributor to our economic prosperity by its contribution to Malaysia Gross Domestic Profit (GDP). It plays important roles in the socio-economic development of our country. The Ministry of Tourism and Culture has actively promoted both domestic and international tourism. The rising significance of tourism industry in terms of its arrivals and receipts has encouraged the government to take several steps time to time for the development of tourism industry. Many national tourism policies are drafted and actions plans are adopted in this regard. Since the tourism industry provides a lot of benefits to the country, it is imperative for the public and private sectors to improve the satisfaction of the tourists and consequently survive in the competitive tourism industries.
Based on the 2018 budget presented by the Prime Minister, Dato Seri Najib Razak, a sum of RM2 billion fund with interest subsidy of 2% is allocated for the Small and Medium Scale Enterprise (SME) tourism industry. It will be provided in term of soft loan to the tour operators. This initiative will create opportunity among youth to venture into the tour operator business, thus providing healthy competition in the tourism industry.
