1.0 Introduction
We all know that not everyone is genius in studying and memorising or understands what have been taught in a very short time. Everyone’s learning ability is different. Sometimes, we just do not know what is taught even though we are sitting in the class, right in front of our lecturer, or sitting in front of a long meeting table. And sometimes, we understand all the things but we forget some of them after we walk out the room in just few minutes. This is sad and we do not want that to happen. We learn words, learn to draw and also learn to arrange or plan something since we were young. We can use them to improve our learning ability which is using a method called note taking. Note taking is actually a method which helps us to record what is being taught by the others for the revision in the future. It saves our time, keeps us focus and helps us to stay organised, get involved and also remember those important facts.
Since we are not a photostat machines or a recorder, we need to make note during the long lecture or the meeting. To make a note, it is simple and not as hard as we think. we just need to prepare a pen or a pencil and

Various method of note-taking such as the usage of tables, mind-maps or simply by point forms are a plus point when notes are needed to be reviewed later on. This is due to the fact that, these methods enable one to jot down notes quickly without falling far behind during the lecture and losing focus. Besides that, when reviewing in preparation in exams, the notes taken according to the various method would be able to refresh and improve the memory of the reader as only the main points or keywords are written down and not the connecting words or sentences that can be constructed around the main points or keywords. As for the more visual person, mind maps and tables relate to them better than just
However, in order to cover even the most advanced topics, the course moves through the material quickly. Consequently, this makes it difficult for beginners as they struggle to apply even foundational concepts learned in the beginning of the course when more ideas are being taught as the class progresses.
I like writing all my notes out when studying for a test rather than simply reading off the slides given to me. I use this tactic when studying for every test. I use all of these methods to effectively learn, making me multimodal. In Chapter four we learned that there is more than one type of memory.
SCI411 Academic and personal development Portfolio: Part 1 From not being in education for a few years, being able to recognise my own academic skills, strengths and weaknesses was quite difficult. However, over these first couple of weeks in lectures my learning strengths and weaknesses have made themselves apparent. Whilst filling out the questionnaire Skills Self-Assessment Audit (Theeducators, 2013) it took a lot of understanding of the questions to be able to answer honestly, and my lowest scores reflected this in the personal effectiveness category. Skill strengths
Writing received a lot of criticism, especially from Socrates, a Greek philosopher. According to Socrates writing was mnemonic and not interactive. Socrates claims “the ultimate effect of writing will be to weaken memory, not strengthen it” (842). According to Baron “we remember this because Plato wrote it down” (842). Socrates views are very disputable since he claims that writing will weaken the memory, yet we know about him because his student Plato wrote it down.

On days where I couldn't write with a pencil and paper, I would type notes in class instead. There was always an alternative that made it possible for me to accomplish the goals I
When you are writing a paper you have to know what you are writing about, and that could take forever. Writing paper takes a lot of time and effort. I feel like it is a waste of time because the teacher give you a topic and then she grades it on how you write the paper on grammar, spelling, and Punctuation. For me to learn is not buy me writing a paper it’s by taking notes. Do you really like I look over the paper to see what the teacher wrote for
Critical thinking is a part of every day life in order to become a fair-minded thinker. Within the next couple of years I am hoping to become an educator for future Surgical Technologist in our hospital. We as adults working in the medical field have to you utilize this on a daily basis, but being human we all fall short to often. The ability to analyze a concept objectively, considering the facts and differing perspectives to reach a sound, logical conclusion is thinking critically (Mendes, 2017).
From reading the article, “Attention, Students: Put Your Laptops Away”, by James Doubek, a NPR journalist that interviews Pam A. Mueller of Princeton University. I agree with the idea that taking notes on pen and paper are better for recalling information. “Because people can type faster than they write, using a laptop will make people more likely to try to transcribe everything they 're hearing,"(Mueller). When students just type what they hear involuntarily, they are not processing the information; the students are typing without thinking. In a similar article, “What’s Lost as Handwriting Fades,” written Maria Konnikova, a journalist that interview several scientists, quotes Daniel M. Oppenheimer, psychologists at the University of California,
Not So Fast”, conducts her own study with a few colleagues to take notes on how students writing skills are changing. She decides to conduct another one twenty five years later to see how much the writing skills have changed since technology has been updated and became more available to students. She found that “students today are writing more than ever before.” Although we still have the same amount of writing errors as before, the patterns of errors are different. Many people argue that technology is only making our writing skill worse, this study helps to prove a different theory.
The author of the article Attention Students: Put Your Laptops Away states that laptops should be put away because they take away beneficial factors of learning from students while taking notes. One of these factors are not obtaining and processing information well because writing helps people retain information. I learned this from a study by Pam Mueller and Daniel Oppenheimer, and I agree with this because I’ve had first hand experiences taking notes on both a computer and by hand. Personally, writing by hand can become aggravating after a while because my hand will start to hurt, but it’s beneficial for me later on. When it’s time to take a quiz or test in class, I remember what I wrote and I can always have the notes with me to study because
My note taking has also improved with the methods i have been instructed in. If my friends or others desire it, I will assist them in bettering their study habits as well. It is better for us all in the long run. I am hoping to keep these, and other practices, in memory when taking future classes and in improving my
It was 1:00 pm when I arrived at Wanamaker Elementary School. Patiently I waited outside the door. When I was finally let inside the classroom, I was welcomed by a mixture of bright smiles and blank stares. Mrs. Stark then introduced me to the class of twenty third graders. After she introduced me to the whole class, I quietly made my way to the back of the class.
Nonetheless, students should identify which few methods enhance their memory and understanding best when learning, as different students have different learning needs. Likewise, students, who are usually required to recall learning materials, are recommended to view future new materials with strong enthusiasm and determination (Shuilleabhain, 2014), as it is an approach to motivate students. However, students should take care not to practice learning techniques they are not familiar with, especially when nearing the exams; as students who, Lan (cited in Bednall and Kehoe, 2011, pp. 205-226) believes, “engage in unfamiliar strategies may induce a high working memory load, thereby diminishing the effectiveness of their study efforts.” Also, both teachers and parents alike should take the practical and relevant steps in ensuring that their students/children are well schooled in the manner of implementing effective learning techniques in their academic life.
This report is about improving students’ memory. The aim to research on this topic is to help students to improve their memory and be have better prepared for exam. Improving memories will take time to improve. The effectiveness will be shown if taking a conscious effort to improve.
