As human beings, we cannot exist without other human beings. We are interconnected and need each other in order to survive. We need someone to lean on to when we suffer and someone to celebrate with when we are happy. Without others we won’t be able to learn new things. From whom will we learn if we exist alone? Everything that we do in the society affect others who live near us. In the Owambo communities, there is a saying “Omuntu omuntu molwaantu” which means “a person is a person because of others”. Ubuntu is a word from the Nguni language which literally means “humanness” and is often translated as “humanity towards others”. Ubuntu is used in a philosophical sense to mean all humanity is connected through a universal bond of sharing. An …show more content…
Most people are forgetting to be human and considerate because they are rushing to be rich. They associate being rich with respect, dignity and being loved. While they are climbing up the ladder to success, they often trample on others. They use devious ways like witchcraft to get to the top. They do not care if they hurt someone in the process. Once they reach the top, they start using others, mistreating and controlling others. Rich people do not share, the keep their money to themselves. They buy countless luxuries: for example a businessmen might have four cars and three houses while there are people going hungry in the streets, homeless people and orphans who need their help. It is rare to find a well-off person having the spirit of Ubuntu. The other challenge of Ubuntu is that it is not a way of life for a single person but rather a community. It is about being kind, respectful and friendly to others. It should be noted that different individuals have different needs and that each person fulfill his/her needs differently. A very poor person who goes hungry might steal from rich people in order to feed him/herself. This means that the person is acting individually to satisfying his/her needs without thinking about how the robbery will affect the

Many people in today’s society is blind to the world. They only see what they want to see, rather than knowing and having an understanding of what’s going on. For example, a prideful boss is arrogant by knowing they have money and can tell the coworkers what to do. The only thing the boss does is sit around, buys new statues of himself to put in his office, and has the workers work harder to pay for his statues. Even though the higher up companies says it’s illegal to have your workers’ pay for your things in your office you want.
You’re walking through an underground pass, and you notice something strange. You happen to be near Gloucester, UK, and you see a large mural while walking around with your coffee in your hand. It happens to be a work of Chiho Aoshima, a rising artist of the Japanese Contemporary movement. You stand a few minutes, letting the busy crowd wash over you like busy fish over a stationary pebble in a stream. Your coffee is cold now, but you feel warmed by the vibrant colors of the mural.
In one circumstance, we may feel the need to give to those who are poor to keep them from getting in our personal space; and in other circumstances we feel that we give to others out of the kindness of our heart. I completely agree with Ascher and her views on compassion, because I have been in similar situation where I have questioned why people give money, and whether they give with a whole heart or out of necessity. Furthermore, this essay can teach us plenty of lessons that can be utilized throughout our lives so we can teach others and make them aware of the need to be more
Family and friends can also serve as your motivation to persevere through difficult times. If in the end you do survive alone, who left would there be to share your victory with? If you left your friends and family to suffer alone and focused on self-perseverance, all that you went through to survive would be inconsequential. It is beneficial to have relationships with family and friends when

We are greedy. We as humans cling to the materialistic things in our lives. Some of us have everything we need to live a perfectly comfortable life, but keep wanting. Greed controls almost everyone, no matter how many possessions we have in our name. In this, when our greed exceed our needs, we lose sight of what is important, leading to our detriment.
The more wealth someone has makes them have less empathy toward others. The
Pursuit of wealth and status has been and always will be part of human behavior. People desire being viewed as wealthy, famed, or significant. For some, being viewed as prosperous comes before protecting their morals. While going after what is most wanted, people will do absolutely anything to achieve it. While it may look like attaining this social identity is from diligently working, sometimes it is through illicit actions.
Though sometimes people don’t do the right thing, people are generous towards each other, even during troubling times. People take care of each other and help each other when they need it. When things aren’t good, people try to have an optimistic attitude. People are generous towards each other, even during hard times.
As the human race continues to evolve there has been one common theme that stays the same. Humans are driven by money and power. It is just the nature of humans. We tend to thrive off of the thrill of having materialistic objects and control of others. In the Shakespearean tragedy King Lear it portrays two fathers who put too much blind trust into their kids.
Johnson talks about the different ways selfishness can be taken. It can either be good or bad. When it comes to good selfishness, it means that you are being selfish for the benefit of you and the other person. Now when it comes to bad selfishness, it consists of a person only thinking about themselves, of their own happiness. These actions have consequences, just like John said, “If you exploit people they become less likely to cooperate with you voluntarily” (PsychologyToday).
Many like to seem superior due to materialistic objects, such as having a lot of money. But, what does money prove to anyone? It tells you nothing about who people actually are. There should not be people who think that any one person is better than another only for the amount of money they or their family have and are worth. The wealthiest person on the planet may be someone who thinks people are not as important as money, and might also be a very selfish person, only holding close to the items they buy.
The wealthier one gets, it seems, the more one rationalizes their decisions and actions. The more one stains their morality little by little until they no longer need to choose what’s right and wrong but what benefits them. Whether it’s right or wrong is then irrelevant. From people to companies, wealth is the source of
