The second competency that resonated with me was the ability to “Demonstrate the use of informatics methodologies to advocate for patient autonomy, dignity and rights and in policy development that would support both the patient and the institution.” I am passionate about advocacy. As a nurse and officer, I must often advocate for my patients and the soldiers who serve under my leadership because I recognize keeping them at the center will improve overall outcomes, satisfaction and morale. Despite the challenges and push back I may encounter as an advocate, it is my responsibility to the patient and soldier. The competencies acquired with this specialty will mature my advocacy. Additionally, I will be
The two distinct practice concepts in nursing that I would take into account includes patient profile concepts which refer to those ideas laying the foundation for a patient-centered approach for nurses (Marriner-Tomey, 1989). The second specific practice theory in nursing is the professionalism concepts. The professionalism concepts are based on the delivery of professional nursing aspects, quality health care and health policy (Polit & Beck, 2013). By taking into account these concepts, it is a serious concern that the nursing fraternity will have been a better profession and industry catering for the well-being of humanity race. Therefore, being a nurse, I have to take into consideration all the aspects that would enable an efficient delivery of quality services (Dossey, 2010).
Imogene King covers the creation of collaborative goals that can be effectively used to reach quality competencies. This model requires nurses to collect data about the patient, and then verify the interpretation of the data with the patient. This insures that both sides agree from the beginning before goals are created. Each patient varies in their needs, and quality requires that nurses be proactive in implementing new and creative ways to provide access to healthcare that is cost efficient and safe for each patient (Thomas et al., 2011). King reaches this goal by including the patient in the creation of the goals.
This incorporates the use of information technology in the direct provision of care, in creating effective administration systems, in managing and delivering education and supporting ongoing learning, and in promoting nursing research. The future is likely to bring more technological power that will yield a vast quantity of information and stored data. The healthcare sector is likely to benefit from modeling systems, decision support systems, expert systems and artificial intelligence. However, the greatest benefits shall not come from the individual tools but from the information made available by these technologies. As such, to advance the specialty, the nursing and midwifery councils in all states must be committed to ongoing education and professional development.
My intended profession is an RN (registered nurse). RNs must maintain accurate, detailed reports and records, monitor, record and report symptoms and changes in patients’ conditions, record patients’ medical records and vital signs, monitor all aspects of patient care (including diet and physical activity), conduct specified laboratory tests, and so much more. Also, RNs must work on building trust with the patient and their families, but he/she must be sure to keep the relationship therapeutic and not get attached to their patient. An RNs work environment usually clean and busy, health care facilities and offices. RNs can also travel outside of their usual work environment.
It is very easy to get wrapped up in the day to day tasks that we complete as nurses. But in order to give our patients the best possible care, we must look at our day through a holistic lens. The following essay will outline the theory as created by the “lady with the lamp” Florence Nightingale. We will look at the different components that are important to a patient’s health and outline on to incorporate these components into current practice. Florence Nightingale Theory of Nursing Upon initial assessment of Mrs. Adams case, many things are out of line according to the theory of nursing by Florence Nightingale.
In this case, it will become easy to acquire a job as moving from one state to the other will become possible. Also, it will improve the quality of services since each of the nurses will have to meet specific requirements of the nursing body. The APRNs will have to get involved in operations that will make them develop their profession by getting involved in care provision in different levels of hospitals (Dahlin, Coyne & Ferrell, 2016). Acquiring experience will be facilitated by the initiative. Therefore, the nurses will have a chance to work all over the country and get involved in taking care of patients with different conditions.
Nurs 6050: Nurse as Leader in the Future Identification of the influence of nursing on important health care decision at all levels. Nurses have proven to be needed at the front of health care at every setting; the nurse usually first sees patients during a hospital visit, sometimes with doctors rounding, and before patients are discharge home, No matter the circumstances, a nurse has many influences on the patients’ health. One of the very important rules we have as nurses is to advocate for patients at all levels. Zomorodi and Foley state in their article “nurses should help individuals to clarify their values when making decision and to reach decision that uphold their reaffirming values” as cited in Gadow, 1980, p. 1747). Most of the time patients are left with health care decision that they may not even understands how to go about, the step to take in making the right decision.
This incorporates creating, distributing and surveying: A code of professional conduct and ethics, Guidance on all aspects of professional conduct, Guidance on maintaining professional competence, Through our wellness to practice capacities, NMBI is in charge of considering grievances against nurses and midwives. (NMBI,2015). Moreover, the code stressed proceeded with expert improvement programs all through the length of practice to upgrade competency in nursing practice (NMBI, 2014). Thorn (2006) suggests that upkeep of professional competency enhances the nature of nursing consideration and further jelly the professional picture of nursing. Nurses are considered professionally mindful and responsible for their practice and this carefully directs them towards keeping up the rights, respect, autonomy and privacy of their customers (An Board Altranais, 1994; ICN,
Advancing nursing leadership Nursing leaders are crucial to any nursing organization. They empower, influence, motivate, and communicate the organization’s vision to create change within the organization. This discussion will define my view of an improved healthcare atmosphere, outline the steps needed to begin this transformation and review my strengths-based assessment. It will also address the role my strengths play in leveraging change and reflect on the impact these strengths has on the team’s success. An Improved Healthcare Atmosphere In today’s healthcare system, effective leadership is essential to improving outcomes.
