WHY PHILOSOPHICAL ANALYSIS MATTERS
1. Philosophical analysis matters because it imparts practical knowledge that helps us develop our critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Despite Philosophy being abstract in nature as a discipline, the concepts and methods that it offers to its learners actually can be applied into practical use. Through learning and mastering the process of philosophical analysis, you will potentially acquire better critical thinking skills and greater problem-solving capabilities. Using these skills, you will know how to take the logical approach of addressing various challenges that you may face that will lead to making better decisions. Philosophical analysis matters because it provides a good foundation of skills, knowledge, character, and attitude to any course, field, or discipline. As we may notice, Philo 1 is one of the required subject of the Revitalized General Education Program (RGEP) among various courses in the University of the Philippines. I believe that the reason for this is that philosophy can really be applicable to various disciplines despite being an independent discipline on its own. First of all, philosophy not only enables us to learn philosophical concepts and methods but it also allows us to develop our thinking process and capacity. Through learning the ways and attitude of a philosopher, we could develop on our own a greater sense of critical-thinking, logical argumentation, and rational decision-making skills which we can use on our own respective fields. Just like for me, being a business administration and accountancy major, the skills that philosophy has to offer can become handy when we are analyzing business models, auditing financial statements, and even when conducting feasibility studies. Second, more than just the skills, philosophy can also cultivate our character as a mover in our own chosen career paths. When we finally graduate and deal with matters concerning our expertise, philosophy reminds us that we should always be critical and analytical to live up to our image as a professional. What philosophical analysis teaches us in this aspect is that we should let go …show more content…
Philosophical analysis matters because it explores a fascinating and interesting topic. In studying philosophy, specifically in our Philo1 subject, we have encountered many unique questions, controversial issues, and debatable explanations. These are what makes philosophical analysis more engaging. It drives the students to be more enthusiastic of the subject matter and it raises different issues that we students enjoy talking about in an intellectual manner. From the simplest mind boggling question of the existence of the cat on the mat and our observation of the chair in front of us, to the more complex and serious matters of questioning the existence of God and arguing on the advantages and disadvantages of pre-marital sex or even prostitution, there are many things that I personally find interesting in philosophy and in my whole experience learning it throughout the sem. By discussing such topics in class, it allows us to explore things that we don’t usually talk about on a day-to-day basis. It broadens our horizon and makes us more appreciative of Aside from this, I also believe that philosophy is not just aimed at simply conveying rudimentary knowledge but also deep understanding and most especially, wisdom. It is a study wherein we try to understand more of our selves and have greater understanding also of the world we live in. Through this, I have learned to always ask questions—ask questions when you are uncertain and ask questions whenever something is not
This shows usage of philosophy to provoke thought from the
Philosophy is a combination of two Latin words; Philo standing for love and sophy meaning wisdom. When you combine the two root words it means the love of wisdom. Knowing the literal meaning of philosophy may help us understand what philosophy; but it does not state what philosophy undoubtedly is. Over the years, philosophy has had many meaning and interpretations. In my personal opinion philosophy is using reason and logic to solve simple or complex questions.
In math gives students a chance to share different methods and angles for solving mathmatical equations. In english, students can analyse characters from different points of view. In every class, students will learn to work together efficiently to gather and organize ideas. Sadly, some students believe "it is a waste of time listening to peers compared to listening to teachers.
Today, money has made many people believe that you need to have a lot of money to live a great, happy life. People in the world, especially the people who don’t have as much money as the ones that do, look up to people like popular idols, because they have money. People think they have a great living life with all the money they have earned during their lives. In the short story “Why You Reckon?” by Langston Hughes, the author uses diction, colloquialism and dialect to express the fact that just because people have the money to go out to eat somewhere expensive or buy the newest clothes, does not mean that a person is happy all the time and expresses how people in the town talks. Money is what makes the world goes round and everyone has come
To study philosophy is to learn to think carefully and critically about complex issues. It is not necessarily to learn the 'answers ' that the discipline has arrived at.” (Sideritis 1.1) to the ideas expounded by the Buddha in the Kalama Sutta: “So in this case, Kalamas, don 't go by reports, by legends, by traditions, by scripture, by logical conjecture, by inference, by analogies, by agreement through pondering views, by probability, or by the thought, 'This contemplative is our teacher. '” This comparison should give us clarity about the Buddhist attitude towards what we can broadly label ‘philosophy’.

This diversity can be a challenge; covering the breadth of knowledge necessary within the given time constraints (Stephen P Day, Scottish Education). This can lead to a propensity for lecture like lesson plans which emphasise content rather than process. This fails to convey the kind of hypothesis based enquiry which is so key to every aspect of science as a whole, and ultimately diminishes learning outcomes (Armbruster et al 2009). “By placing students at the centre of instruction, this approach shifts the focus from teaching to learning and promotes a learning environment more amenable to the metacognitive development necessary for the students to become independent and cr Therefore in order to help children develop their ideas and conceptual understandings it is essential to provide opportunities to make links between their own ideas and other alternatives (Russell & Watt, 1992).
A rhetorical analysis is a way break down a text using reading skills and applying it into an essay. Students today may already have a plan to go to college or may need more time to think of what they are going to do. Underemployment is beginning to be more persistent in college graduates which shows that there might be something wrong in the pathway into a career. This is exactly the question that Italian writer Italo Calvino attempts to answer in his essay, ‘Why Read the Classics’. In the essay, Calvino writes about the classics and their importance to the modern world, such as the ability to think critically. I agree with Calvino that the classics are meant to make us think. The term classic is much disputed as many hold different ideas of what a classic is or is not. In Italo Calvino’s essay, ‘Why Read the Classics’, he attempts to define the classics by giving a total of fourteen definitions.

Based on the identification of the above approaches, it is obvious that more effort on the part of the student (dialectic and heuristic methods) may diminish scientific intensity. On the contrary, this intensity can increase by using the didactic method. However, students have been observed to have passive roles in this method, so they do not externalise the questions that the topics explained by the
