Food is the necessity in life. No one can survive without such thing as food, it plays a very important role to sustain and continue living. But then food varies on different content regarding its nutrients and components that can affect our lifestyle even our health as well. So we must be aware in choosing the right food that we intake. Nowadays in every parts of the world food is being stored in all of the houses for some reasons or factors like for emergency purposes, the distance of their house from the market and to save time. But the most important reason why people stored food is because it has a longer shelf life. To be able to increase the shelf life and maintain its natural characteristics, preservatives are added to the foods. In line with this is the food preservation that began in prehistoric times, it is the kind of preservation that prevent the food from spoilage, loss of nutrients and loss of quality and also to survive during the time of scarcity. There are different kinds on how people preserve food.
The first one is the natural method which is easy, economical and healthful. It aims to exclude air, moisture and microorganism that cause spoilage. Natural method can be done in many ways like smoking, sun drying, salting, and sometimes they just add sugar or vinegar to the food.
