I am interested in becoming a correctional senior case analyst. A senior case analyst within the Department of Corrections in North Carolina oversees other case analysts and ensures that the security level and program recommendations for inmates who are coming into the prison system are appropriate for each individual. The process involves reviewing the files of each inmate after they have been interviewed by a case analyst and what their recommendations are for programs and level of security facility the inmate should be sent to within the North Carolina prison system. Senior case analysts also oversee the psychological and intellectual testing of inmates; these results are also used in placing the inmates within the prison system and deciding which programs would be beneficial to the individual. Examples of programs available are Alcoholic’s Anonymous, GED classes, Community Work Programs, and Transitional programs.
This is especially important to promote the safety of the public, for the defendant’s rights and society. The whole purpose of the insanity defense is to put the defendant in rehab and asylums, not a prison. Prison has a lesser opportunity to help someone’s mental illness and state of mind. Mental Health America encourages legal changes, if they are necessary, to achieve goals for the insanity plea. Some of the goals they wish to have
We can use the military as an example, on how soldiers are treated for stress and ptsd with counseling and therapy to help them reassimilate into functioning members of society. However only time will tell whether this method of reducing police brutality is effective. In conclusion we aknowledge that police brutality is an ongoing problem, it requires both citizens and law enforment to work together to achieve the ultimate goal of
DB #1 The video “How to Understand Power” by Eric Liu, clarifies the significance of power. Knowing how power function is the key to be efficient, and to be taken serious by other people. Also, it is beneficial to become of aware of how power operates; to comprehend the three laws of Power. Nevertheless, understanding the aspects of power is useful to become a better citizen and an effective criminal justice administrator. First, there are several conflicts within the administrations of Criminal Justice.
Halfway houses are places where offenders can live, work, and pay rent, while receiving treatment or job training, they are a critical component in reintegrating offenders into society. There are two types of halfway houses, in or out, halfway in refers to the last chance for an offender to correct criminal behavior before being incarcerated, and halfway out is typically parolees and prerelease offenders. Both equally as important, correcting antisocial behavior is key in rehabilitating offenders, teaching positive behaviors and necessary skills to overcome the challenges of life. The environment allows offenders to live in society, and enables them to learn how to navigate and overcome obstacles in real life scenarios, while under supervision.
There’s a multitude of things that need to be repaired in our system, and prison is one of them. Prison reform is an important issue because we need to take care of everyone and with the way we treat criminals, we do not see them as equal. We need to assess illegal acts correctly instead of trying to put people in jail for the rest of their lives. We also need to work more on how we try to rehabilitate people. Instead of barring convicts off from the rest of us, we need to teach them how to integrate, so they can live better lives than they did
This must be emphasized because the level of protection not only for the police officers but also for the mentally ill. The mentally ill are a protected by HIPAA laws, and in this study I need to be mindful of these laws and make sure I do not break any of them. Another consideration is the fact I am studying human subjects and their behavior in certain situations, in turn I will have to get IRB
In addition to providing an opportunity for exposure and training, teaching restorative justice in law schools would help shape leaders who “‘develop the vision, the skills, and the passion’ to successfully transform the criminal justice system.” Clinical programs would offer law students an experience in understanding first hand how the criminal justice system works to protect rights, but fails to repair harm and address needs. In addition, restorative justice clinics “provide an excellent opportunity for law schools to benefit the community through public service,” which is an embodiment of restorative justice principles in and of itself. For practicing attorneys, Continuing Legal Education (CLE) courses would be an opportunity to teach and train restorative justice practices. II. Conclusion Restorative justice offers a transformative experience for everyone involved.
Two Encountered Dilemmas One ethical dilemma that mental health counselors encounter would be institutional policies against disclosure (Substance Abuse and mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA, 2005). In addition, it is important for counselors to identify their clients. Moreover, counselors may have one legal client, but faced with several ethical clients. Disclosure of information of client’s confidentiality need to be protected by counselors, which can be difficult when information has been court ordered. Foote and Shuman (2006) points out clients are sent by lawyers for an assessment of their mental or emotional state of mind, which mean
The counselor needs to make sure to respect clients at all times. For that reason, the counselor should refer to the code of ethics for additional support. The counselor should have ethical and legal considerations when using research in counseling it is for the protection of the client. It is important to know what the population the counselor will be working to see if the research will be effective if there will be any barriers for the client. The responsibility of the counselor is to collect the proper pre and post-test of the client to show a difference when they first started therapy when they finished.
Before intervening through treatment, I need to know if I am working with a special population (substance-abuse offenders, violent offenders, psychopaths, sex offenders, and women) so that I can correctly adjust treatment to meet their needs. Moreover, I need to be aware of the cultural norms of the offender to form a respectful therapeutic alliance. Since the prison is run by the state or federal government, I need to consider that although I work with the prisoners, I work for the prison and the facility is my true client. Therefore, I should remember that the convict may lack trust in me, as a therapist, and may show restrictions participating in therapy because they might see me as an instrument of the court or law enforcement. For a successful rehabilitative program, Andrews and Bonta advocate that the program must "respect the individual, have a psychological theory basis, and should work in junction with the enhancement of preventative service" (YEAR).
However, an important concept to understand about this profession, is that the individual starts out as a radiologic technologists. That means that part of the education to become a radiologist assistant could be accomplished at a different university. Just like the radiology technology program, perquisites and an application are required. Each program is different, but most programs have one application dead line a year in the spring semester. This is comparable to the radiologic technology application at Washburn University.

There should be a way of ruling with compassion where even those with authority should show a sincere desire to help because it lessens the amount of hostility when correcting one’s behavior. Also, there should be programs that will help convicts to function better in society upon release so that they do not go back to the same mischief. Mass Incarceration serves to be problematic within the United States of America, but there can be solutions and hopefully one day there will be a public official will come along and implement these
This will be a hard task because the scrutiny of media and the public has made it difficult for officers to do their job. However, transparency will ultimately be rewarding because the public will come to trust law enforcement again. I would not tolerate corruption and ensure that officers I trust, and have personally worked with are selected for the Internal Investigations Unit. Their mission will be to find, and terminate any officer that is found to be corrupt. They will also monitor patrol operations and seek out new ways the department can become more professional.
