Project management and the growth of an organization have always remained interlinked. There is a deep connection between the two where the former directly impacts the success graph of the latter.
Though it was already known that a company’s project management framework highly impacts its growth; a wider understanding on the same has been established only recently. Closing: This is the last phase in the life cycle of the project where things are summed up and a final project report is prepared. Though many might feel that this phase is not as important as the other phases, we would like to clarify that project closure does require due consideration and needs to be handled very carefully. This is so because this is the phase where your actual project results would be finally documented, and the value that the project has created along with the failures, if any, would be notified as well. Therefore, until and unless the project closure procedure is aptly done, a project cannot be considered to be successfully completed.
Importance of Project Management for Organizations
Industry experts and peers have recognized that strong project management is among the most important pillars for success of an organization. However, for relying so much on project management, it is necessary that organizations do have a clearly defined project management framework and a demarcated team of skilled and responsible members.

Project management certifications like PMI’s Project Management Professional (PMP) are internationally recognized and are widely demanded by organizations/employers all over the world. If you go to check the project management related jobs posted online, you’ll get to see either PMP or any other project management certification as the preferred or mandatory criteria for applying for the position.
There are a number of reasons why organizations give so much consideration to project management certifications and prefer hiring certified project managers. For instance, high demand for the certification from clients is one of the top reasons for the same. Leading market players like IBM give high preference to having PMP certified project managers on board as it is one of the major demand from the clients. It’s just that clients want only PMP certified managers to handle their projects as they can be better trusted owing to the domain expertise, knowledge and skillset that PMPs
Each project has its own unique attributes, but all projects share the same constraints. Scope, time and cost are the three constraints which can be found in every project. The “triple constraints” is the name given to identify the three constraints. The scope identifies the requirements within a project which will be completed during the project and culminate into the final deliverable. Time is the time is takes to complete the project.

All projects must come to an end and that is the time when it is handed off to the client for their responsibility. For this project there was some road blocks encountered when I was getting to the final stages of the project. I can see how scope creep can extend the timeframe of a project or even derail it completely. Partner and software solution selection – Cisco was implementing ERP for the first time and the implementation was extremely critical to business. They could not take any risk in selecting the integration partner or the solution. KPMG was selected as an integration partner because it was very experienced, had great technical skills and business knowledge and demonstrated great commitment. For selecting the solution they did lot of research – asked large corporations, the “Big six” accounting firms, Gartner etc. – before zeroing on five packages. Also during the RFP phase they contacted the “reference clients” for feedbacks.
To organise for project management requires an understanding of the organisation’s architecture which includes the organisational hierarchy - the grouping of internal business units, the authority lines and interaction with one another. Each of these aspects should be designed to support project management within the organisation. Structure should follow strategy or else it may impede communication, coordination and decision making which are all key to success (Brevis, 2014, p. 224). Hence, an important function of upper management is to support project teams by either redesigning the organisation to emphasize projects or integrating projects into the current organisation (Graham & Englund, 2004).
Clients often need to be made to realize that if a project is to be completed at a certain level of quality, then a certain amount of time and money need also to be invested in the project. Projects that have time restrictions will need to increase the resources assigned to it or have the quality or scope reduced. The well known triple constraint formula is Cost * Schedule= Quality.
3.2 Model Criteria The EFQM model criteria focuses on nine different principles that describe what an organisation does, how it does it & what it achieves. Five of these principles are “Enablers” and the other four are “Results”. The criteria can be traced back to the fundamental concepts as they share similar ideals. Figure 2 below shows the criteria model with the nine core principles.
The purpose of this memo is to give a detailed report on the success of my completed projects as well as the status on ongoing projects. Throughout this report I will discuss any questions or concerns I have with projects that I have done or that I am still working on. I will also provide an illustration of the status of each project that has been assigned in the form of a chart. The principle reason that motivated me to pursue the MSc Project Management course is the appeal and challenge Project Managers experience in delivering assignments they undertake in their career. The qualification, indeed, lead to very smart and modern careers for graduates who love challenges, creativity, leadership and success. As a graduate of Mathematics, I have cultivated these features in my student life. Now, for my master level of study, I would like to take my chance of attaining formal skills in the area of project management.
