About a year ago, I was on a water bus journey with a few of my classmates. We were having a good time. But the curse of being an engineering student, my minds led me to go to navigation deck and observe ship operation. I struck up a conversation with the Captain about the water bus and waterway, and learned some interesting fine details. One of them was that the water bus always maintains a constant speed in that inland waterway. I was curious to know why, so I asked him. He said if the vessel speed exceeds that constant operating speed, local people complain about shore erosion. I was surprised to hear the answer from him. Why such phenomenon of shore erosion would occur due to exceeding ship speed? What is the relation between these two …show more content…

I chose Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering as my undergraduate major simply because of the vast diversity of subjects offered by the Department which includes Fluid Mechanics, Hydrodynamics, FEM, CFD, Motion and Control, Hydrostatics and Stability, Ship Design, Ship Structure, Ship Performance, Thermal Engineering, Heat Transfer, Mechanics of Structure, Theory of Machines, Fracture Mechanics and Materials. Of all the courses, Fluid Mechanics, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Hydrodynamics and FEM intrigued me most and piqued my interest to pursue my graduate studies and research in these …show more content…

In order to develop expertise in a particular arena and to delve deep into it, there is no alternative to undertaking Ph.D. I have been searching for a suitable university for my Ph.D. study. I have decided on Kansas State University because of its diverse and reputed faculties, fabulous research facilities and the reputation as a prestigious Mechanical Engineering institution. Researches done at CURET Lab, Microfluidics and Energy Laboratory, SeaTech- The Institute for Ocean & Systems Engineering and Center for Acoustics and Vibrations have attracted me most. Another reason for choosing Kansas State University is the positive feedback I got about the research environment from my seniors of undergrad school who are currently pursuing their graduate studies at this renowned university.

I understand that doing a Ph.D. is a big commitment. It takes a toll on one, requires a lot of strength of mind and sacrifice. But this is what I want. This is what I would love to do. And I am willing to take any challenges for the prospect of deeper research to serve the mankind in its most effective form. I believe, I would be able to contribute a significant impact to the scientific world if provided with the
