Earlier there was a need of quality in any product or service; now it has been a mandatory necessity. How can we ignore the fact of assuring the quality once when we are dealing with something which itself is important for maintaining the quality of a person. External factors: Various external factors on which the service-providers have very less or no control makes it almost mandatory to ensure the quality in this industry. After having a know-how of the various challenges of this industry it becomes quite obvious that why there is the need of quality in such an industry which is celebrated for high revenues. Importance of Quality in Travel and Tourism It is needless to state the importance of quality in any industry, but whenever we are talking about the travel and tourism industry this importance grows manifold. An industry which is not only highly competitive but also having low-barrier for entry itself intensifies the importance of ensuring quality to match the expectations of the customers. There are various factors which underline the importance of quality in this industry. Some of them are: 1. Creating a competitive edge: One needs to have a high degree of quality being ensured in order to create a competitive edge among its competitors where there is a hue and cry for retaining customers. 2. Then it becomes a sheer necessity to have an exact idea of this seasonality in order to mitigate the effect which brings the need for its measurement. In order to explore the nature of seasonality in tourism we need to some reliable measuring methods which can help us in quantifying this vague term. The various measurement methods are: I. Seasonal Range: Abbreviated as SR it is defined as the difference between the highest and the lowest value of monthly indices where index is equal to 100 which is the average number of tourist arrivals per month. II. Coefficient of Seasonal Variation (s): It is equal to the standard deviation of seasonal indices where index is equal to 100 which is the average number of tourist arrivals per month. III. Seasonality Ratio (R): It is defined as the relation between the highest number of monthly tourist arrivals and the average number of monthly tourist arrivals. IV. Seasonality Indicator (ω): It is a ratio between the average number of tourist arrivals per month and the highest monthly number of tourist arrivals.
