Quality management in a laboratory refers to a set of dynamic laboratory practices aimed at providing the clinician and the patient with the best accurate result as possible at right time in order to make a right clinical decision finally improving the quality of performance of the organization. The entire process, which starts from ordering of a laboratory test to the interpretation of the result of the same by the clinician, involves participation of multiple individuals and instruments broadly classifiable under three phases; pre analytical, analytical and post analytical phases. There are multiple steps involved hence susceptible to error at any of the stages. A quality program is aimed at preventing or at least minimizing these errors.
