Bangladesh is an agriculture-based country where better parts of its total people are directly or indirectly connected wide range of agricultural activities. Rainfall is the most important natural catalyst that determines the agricultural production in Bangladesh. The fertility of farmland as well as the stability of land resources depends heavily upon the rainfall. The variability of rainfall and the extreme high or low precipitations are very important for the agricultural production as well as the economical growth of the country. It is well known that the rainfall is changing globally; and the regional scales due to global warming .The climate in earth primarily influenced by monsoon and also partly by pre-monsoon and post-monsoon and winter circulations. Bangladesh is considered to be one of the most vulnerable country for change of climate rapidly and shortage or heavy rainfall. This is due to its unique geographic location, dominance of floods and rising of sea level. Moreover, the monsoon season is characterized by the occurrence of severe floods due to heavy rainfall which causes extensive damage to crops, livestock and properties associated with loss of valuable lives. …show more content…
It can be said that the mean rainfall shifts towards pre-monsoon season from monsoon. More need based analysis can be carried out based on the outcomes of this study to investigate rainfall pattern in drought prone areas for mitigation of drought or crop areas for adjustment of crop period. The analytical results will help the planners and policy makers to counter productive the adverse effect of environmental parameter (rainfall) in different sectors like agriculture, drought mitigation, flood control etc. However, the above studies are not up-to-date and are subject to further confirmation through more detail
In Ray Bradbury’s science fiction short story “There Will Come Soft Rains” Bradbury uses the advanced technology of the fully automated house to comment on the dangers of human reliance on technology and the potential consequences of our actions, ultimately highlighting the destructive nature of humanity and the fragility of life. Bradbury uses the advanced technology of the fully automated house to comment on the dangers of human reliance on technology and the potential consequences of our actions. The house is described as being able to perform all of the household tasks without human intervention, but it becomes a haunting reminder of the absence of its inhabitants who were wiped out by a nuclear bomb. As the story states, "The house stood

The Negative Effects of Overdependence on Technology Through Ray Bradbury’s collection of short stories The Martian Chronicles, the theme of the overuse of technology is greatly emphasized through his use of the literary devices: allusion and imagery. To respond to the hysteria of the Cold War, Bradbury criticizes mankind’s ignorance through their improper use and overdependence on technology, which proved to be destructive to society and humanity on Earth. Throughout his anthology, Bradbury utilizes allusion in order to criticize humanity’s corrupt use of technology. In the short story There Will Come Soft Rains, Bradbury alludes to the atomic bombing of Hiroshima by describing how “five spots of paint remained, [and] the rest was a thin
In the short story, “On the Rainy River” by Tim O’Brien, the author develops the idea that when an individual experiences a feeling of shame and humiliation, they often tend to neglect their desires and convictions to impress society. Tim, the narrator, starts off by describing his feeling of embarrassment, “I’ve had to live with it, feeling the shame”, before even elaborating on the cause of the feeling. Near the end of the story, he admits he does not run off and escape to Canada because it had nothing to do with his, “mortality...Embarrassment, that’s all it was”. The narrator experiences this feeling of intense shame and then he decides that he will be “a coward” and go to war. His personal desire is that he wishes to live a normal life and could never imagine himself charging at an enemy position nor ever taking aim at another human being.
Many have wondered what is to blame for a drought of this severity. Scientific research performed by many climatologists
Flooding can cause various hazards, especially for Los Angeles County. Los Angeles County has had issues with flooding and El Niño could possibly lead to severe flooding and mudflows. Los Angeles County coastal areas have been severely affected by El Niño three times during the years of 1977-1978, 1982-1983, and 1997-1998 (FEMA, 2011). During these years El Niño damaged residential and commercial areas and cost the city millions of dollars in damages (FEMA, 2011). Issues within the Los Angeles flood system can make El Niño more severe if they are not fixed.
Technology in There Will Come Soft Rains Ray Bradbury’s “There Will Come Soft Rains” has multiple conversations about the importance, and possible downfall, of relying on technology. The story gives the reader a glimpse into the future of how humans and technology would exist hand in hand. Analyzing the story shows that humans rely too much on the technology of their time. In this story, Ray Bradbury was trying to prove that humans will destroy themselves with their dependence on technology and robotics.
The word technology has been used as a hypernym to describe different technological advances throughout the years; it has been viewed in many ways, and envisioners of the early less advanced times thought of stories and ideas as to what innovations could exist. For example, Ray Bradbury wrote the short story, “There Will Come Soft Rains” in 1950, and conceptualized the idea of a futuristic entirely self-sufficient home, with the use of smart appliances and assisting robots. He highlights how technology can both be beneficial and harmful to humans and society. Through the use of plot development, Bradbury conveys that technology can be both valuable and dangerous.
On Tuesday, Hurricane Matthew hit the southwestern coast of Haiti. The hurricane brought lots of damage and no one on the island is sure if it is over yet. The hurricane is very dangerous and people are trying to keep safe. Haitian authorities are trying to remove people from the dangerous areas but many do not want to leave their homes and all of their belongings because they are not sure if they will get them back. Even if the people of Haiti wanted to leave, it is too late because there is no way to evacuate them.
Desertification and climate change in drier areas causes severe water shortages and even droughts. Western culture has created an increase in urbanisation, population and industrialisation,
The impact of climate change is being felt throughout the world; however, the situation is more pronounced in developing countries because many households, social groups and regions have a limited capacity to adapt to climate variability and change (UNFCCC, 2007; IPCC 2007). The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC, 2007:6) defined climate change as any change in climate over time, whether due to natural variability or as a result of human activity. The (UNFCCC 2007) espoused that agricultural production on the African continent relies primarily on rainfall. As such, any interruption in rainfall pattern and intensity will adversely affect the poor, predominantly the smallholder farmers (ibid).
Climate change is the most rising issue of the modern world that is threatening our planet from the last few decades. In the simplest definition, the term climate change refers to the rising of the planet’s temperature, particularly an increase in the average atmospheric temperature. It should be noted that in the last few decades, many scientists and ecologists has discovered the Earth temperature is increasing at an alarming rate and has affected the planet in numerous of way. The constant change in the climate due to various causes is threatening the preservation of the Earth and its human life. It should be noted that the climate change is linked with several of the human activities that are further directed towards the global warming.
Researches show that the average temperature of the planet has been changed during the last decades, as a result, many problems join with it and climate change is considered as the biggest problem around the world. Climate change is one of the results of global warming and it has so many negative disadvantage impacts on earth, including; increasing the events of natural
1.0 Introduction Climate change is becoming widely recognised as the key worldwide challenge of this century. Global warming is altering the world as we know it. Climate change can have calamitous impacts in various cities across the world. At a regional level, various long term changes in climate have already been observed within South East Queensland (SEQ), including changes in temperature, widespread changes in precipitation amounts, wind patterns and aspects of extreme weather such as droughts, heavy participation, heatwaves and the intensity of tropical cyclones (IPCC, 2007; SMEC Australia, 2007). What has become more and more noticeable in modern years is that we as a society have not acted quickly enough to lower emissions, the accumulation
