Secondly, speaking tasks in which students try to use any or all of the language they know provide feedback for both teacher and students. In an effort to teach literacy in my content area, I have promoted students interaction and discourse as learning strategies. I have experienced that learning is more effective for ELLs when they are given the opportunity to practice their academic language in the classroom. My goals as an instructor, has been to become a facilitator in the learning process and to implement teaching approaches that promote success in all content areas. Strong communication skills are very essential in all aspects of your life. Effective communication is not just in the words you speak. Your body language, pitch, tone and the speed in which you deliver your words is also very important. One can have an amazing speech prepared but their body language and other factors can completely throw it off. There are many famous individuals who have good communication skills and there are also many celebrities who have horrible communication skills.
Most occupations require some human interaction and communication, whether it be going to the bank, sitting through an interview, or even making a phone call. Sadly, many students have a fear of doing those things and offering a class to aid in the process of overcoming that fear would benefit them. The elective speech course offered only teaches students how to present speeches which doesn’t benefit most kids. A required communications course would examine different scenarios in life when proper communication skills would be necessary and teach the students how to handle those situations. By incorporating these real life scenarios, the students will learn how to adapt and prosper in the real world.
During my SBS experience, the researcher observed learners reading words with wrong pronunciations or mispronouncing some words. This has motivated
1. How do children acquire reading vocabulary? What are the levels of knowing a word? There are many different ways to acquire reading vocabulary for children: - Reading to children (reading aloud books and other materials that have some new words) - Getting children reading (engage children in activities to encourage independent reading: children are learning new vocabulary words through independent reading) - Engaging children in rich oral language (children are learning new words through talk, specially when they are listening and participating in high-level conversation) - Encouraging reading at home (sending books and interactive activities at home) - Raising words awareness (teachers have to draw children attention and interest to words around them by playing with words using the games or songs) - Teaching important words (teachers have to choose new words to teach
First, the speech development is one of the first tools that child will demonstrate in their first learning situation. Then, it is important to have language development skills at first. By this kind of activities, the children engaged in speaking with other peers may have cooperative ideas in play any task given by the teacher. There also verbal and non-verbal interactions involved between two or more person that contribute to the social interactions that can improve their communication skills. Furthermore, Games encourage the ability to use language naturally and without conscious effort. Playing games give learners a reason to communicate to achieve an outcome and the purpose of playing (Ara, 2009). English language games provide learners with cause for communication and a context where they can practice speaking skills (Ara, 2009). I faced some instances when students were tired and reluctant to learn anything. At such time, I introduced a vocabulary game to them that broke the monotony and definitely involved and inspired the students to participate in the activities even the lazy ones.
Communication is a crucial management tool required in order to complete things successfully. Without the use of appropriate communication none of the management roles can be done successfully. Hence, communication is an important part of all management purposes. The concepts we learned have for us as teacher great importance, however we don’t want o shouldn’t try to teach them to ours students, it is not necessary for them to know the phonetic alphabet, they must discriminate the different sounds of phonemes and we can help them to do so by a variety of techniques like modelling, the use of videos or songs where they can listen the pronunciation in context.
As a new student of education, examining creative performance based ways to engage students in the classroom, new tools to use in language instruction and the notion of implementing authentic materials on a day to day basis were foreign concepts before NECTFLS. While I held a solid grasp of what it meant to maintain proficiency in a language, I lacked the ability to really understand how the significance of this word had drastically changed in the classroom and how this knowledge applies in real life situations. The following is a breakdown of the several lectures I attended, along with a reflection regarding my findings and a concise call to action as the conference follow-up. The first session that I attended at the NECTFLS Conference, titled “90%+: Promoting Target Language Use for Performance” by Charlotte Gifford, primarily focused on the ways in which language educators have the ability to engage students in more
