I 've been a lucky child: my sister teached me how to read at the age of three and I had plenty to pick and learn from my parent 's house 's bookshelves. Since then, I literally felt the urge to read everything I could get my hands on: the world was such a dark, misterious place to me, but everything I read shed a light on it. I guess I could be defined hungry: not as a human with an appetite, but as a voracious beast.
As soon as primary school begun for me, I realized that I wouldn 't be allowed anymore to let my curiosity wander wherever it wanted; furthermore, I was forced to keep a slower pace: a textbook was meant to be read for an entire year, while I used to read it in a few days, just because I was bored. Because of that I immediately lost interest in school, and felt from the beginning that school and education were two different worlds. I 'd say that somehow I took ownership of my learning as soon as I started reading.

A teacher, as the expert of a topic, should guide the student through all aspects of that subject; show the student a map, give him all the tools to travel, then then let him explore. There 's nothing more useful than someone helping you plan your learning: when studying machine learning (sorry for the redundant example) you should first be sure you know your algebra, for example. A good instructor guides the student, and a good student keeps pursuing knowledge.
I didn 't believe much in collaborative learning until now. UOPeople opened my eyes on how useful collaborative learning can be: my language skills have never been better; reading other people 's points of view made me see some topics under a different light. I tend to explore a topic deeper when working alone; I think in this case collaborative working may not be the right choice for
