Physical Education is an important area of the crriculum that will help a child develop holistically. The role of a primary school teacher is to produce a lesson which is fun, active, safe and to create a place of learning in order to motivate and encourage the children to participate fully in Physical Education. Through different activities and pedagogy the primary teacher can include each aspect within their lesson. When teaching all six strands within the primary curriculum a teacher should most importantly aim to “to promote enjoyment of, and positive attitudes towards, physical activity and its contribution to lifelong health-related fitness” (Physical Education Curriculum, 1999, p.11)
Safety is one of the first issues a primary teacher should address when engaging in a Physical Education lesson with their class. There are three areas that must be looked at before beginning each lesson. It is crucial that the teacher checks the Pe area before allowing their class to use the facility identifying any leaks or spillages. A safe space should be marked out around

14) . Most importantly the chosen activity should be “deliberately matched to each pupil’s current skill level and potential.” (Severs, 2003, p. 14). Rules and safety instructions should always be identified to the class before the lesson begins “instruction should be repeated and pupil’s understanding continually checked.” (Severs, 2003, p. 14) The teacher should be consistently watching their class to maintain a safe environment
It is extremely important that a teacher ensures that’s their class is active during their lesson. As discussed in the book “Developing Teaching skills in Physical Education by Daryl Siedentop and Deborah Tannehill” an important way of ensuring a class is active is to be an active teacher yourself thus motivating and encouraging students to participate.
Each lesson includes pre-instructional strategies, content presentation, learner participation, an assessment, and follow through activities. Instructional Theories and
This demonstrates my understanding of effective learning though appropriate instructional strategies because is displays how I implemented a variety of materials and technological resources to support my instructional strategies and reinforce student learning. It also conveys my ability to assess student’s through both formal (activity sheet) and informal (thumbs up) assessment techniques. These techniques help me evaluate the student’s strengths/weaknesses and the effectiveness of my instructional strategies. This particular skill outcome is important to early childhood education because implementing instructional strategies that reach the diversity of our students is going to promote overall student success. We, as early childhood educators, have to use a variety of strategies to discover more about the student’s developmental process and adjust our instruction in a way that will promote students to become self-directed
This makes it the job of the teacher and assistant of each class to make sure that the children
Any professional working with children or young people is responsible for the care and well being of those children. Making sure that a child is safe on or out of a school setting is of paramount importance. Not only does it make a child or young person feel safe in a learning environment but it also gives the child the security to develop and achieve from an early age. For children to be effectively protected, it is essential that everyone accepts the responsibility of their role and to also be protected in that role. E.g. when escorting a child to the toilet or a child needs to be undressed due to any accident, it is vital that another member of staff or child is present as to not allow any allegations of misconduct.
Competency Statement 1: To establish a safe, healthy learning environment When you are an Early Childhood educator there are some key factors that you have to keep in mind: 1. Creating a safe environment and 2. Creating and instilling in your students and yourself a healthy environment. Safety to me is a very detrimental factor in Early Childhood, because when you deal with young children you always have to watch out for their well being as if they were your own.
Safety My plan for maintaining a safe environment would be to make sure there are fire extinguishers that are in working condition. There also needs to be a carbon monoxide/smoke detector. Along with that the staff and children that work there should know the emergency procedures for every natural disaster or problems that may happen.
Without a doubt, there has always been a great risk of injury while participating in contact sports. The participants involved in any contact sporting event are always susceptible to being injured. These participants are completely aware of the everyday risk, but the energy that these sports bring, keep them going regardless. Over the years, there have been countless numbers of injuries due to the nature of these sports, but still millions of people young to old gain interest everyday. While people young to old are gaining interest everyday to contact sports many parents of young children are being faced with the issue either to allow their children to participate in often dangerous sports.
Children and young adults always experiment new ways and new things of doing things. As they are growing in a world of hazards and dangers that it would not be correct to keep them far from some of critical situations where we must support but not smother them as the children could possibly grow up unsociable, nervous and unhappy , if we restrict them from such situations, we may restrict their learning. So, it is very important that teaching the students the skills that will help in managing dangers and risk for themselves. By giving the opportunity to experience a certain level of risky practices will helps the students to develop competences and confidence to make their own balance approach in risk taking, so that the students are not over protected. •
Children can see the classroom rules as well. We promise to; be safe, be kind, clean up after ourselves and follow the rules. pag.199. 9) I observed that children play together and interact in different activities.
One of the key to the successful teaching of physical education is the use of a broad range of approaches and methodologies. As it is acknowledged that schools, classes and teachers will vary, some methods will suit particular circumstances better than others, and the nature of the strands themselves necessitates the use of a variety of teaching methods. There is a need to examine the teaching methods which will best enhance the achievement of the objectives, taking factors such as the content and context of the lesson into account, as well as the needs of the learner. Teaching means sharing, guiding, changing behavior, impressing, disciplining, counseling, directing and inspiring. Good teaching is a process of producing end products of
U1 AC 2.1 - Explain ways to maintain a safe and supportive learning environment. A number of ways to establish a safe and supportive learning environment is to stay within what is deemed as conventional rules and disciplines. A typical class room layout is rows of desks and chairs facing the front, it is the usual expected layout for learners and encourages them to accept conformity, something as simple as sitting on the chairs facing the front of the classroom is reassuring to the majority that the class is safe. In days of yesteryear the students would be expected to stand up when the teacher entered the room and wait for permission to be seated, thankfully those days are in the distant past and now it is acceptable to remain talking until the teacher is ready to begin class.
Throughout the year I would be consistent and remind children of my expectations to limit the amount of unacceptable behaviours. Kearns states that it is important for educators to be consistent in their expectations because it helps children learn what is acceptable if all educators react in the same way to unacceptable behaviours (2013). The National Quality Framework, quality area 3 – Physical environment states that “the environment must be safe, suitable and provide a rich and diverse range of experiences promoting children’s learning and development” (ACECQA, 2011). According to Fields, Merritt, and Fields, the layout of the environment should be set up to facilitate responsibility and independence.
2.1 Assessment What does physical activity mean to you? To me physical activity is doing anything that involves moving the body eg. walking, jumping ,playing sports. I feel that it is very important to be physically active as it helps with your health and stress levels, looks and many more benefits.
604 assignments 1 1) Concepts and structure This essay will first answer what is skill theme approach? It is a model that describes both content of physical education (what to teach) and pedagogy of physical education (how to teach) (Graham, Holt/Hale, & Parker, 2010). In skill theme approach teacher is the instructional leader. Teacher uses shaping process to achieve desired skill movement patterns. Teachers structures the learning, give detailed and repeated instructions, ask large number of questions.
The term inclusion is often seen as simply referring to learners with special needs, where it is interpreted as the ‘complete acceptance of a student with a disability in a regular classroom.’ However the notion can be viewed much more broadly. A common misconception about inclusion is that it is solely about including people with disability in regular sport activities without any modification. (Australian sports commission) However being inclusive is about providing a range of options to cater for people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds, in the most appropriate manner possible.
