Kathmandu is the capital city of the nation’s as well the largest metropolitan city. Nepal is a developing country of highly diverse and rich in geography, culture, and religions. Mount Everest is known as the tallest point on Earth. It is a climb that every climber yearns for. In 1996, a group of experienced climbers attempted to climb Everest, ultimately ending with 8 people dead. This incident became known as the 1996 Mount Everest Disaster. Jon Krakauer, one of the survivors of this climb wrote the memoir, Into Thin Air, in which he expresses that life is unpredictable and that when feeling in doubt one should never give up.
Krakauer explains how following the discovery of Everest as the highest mountain in the world, the journey to the top would take the lives of 24 men, the efforts of 15 expeditions and the passage of 101 years before someone would finally reach the summit. This demonstrates how all though the expedition to the top was not easy, and would require the lives of many men, people would not stop trying because that is human nature. Not all people climb Mt. Everest in their lifetime, but most people, if not all, work hard to achieve something or be successful. Whether that success may be in their professional life, their personal life, or anything else, Mt. Everest can symbolize all of it. Racism, being a negative side of Nepal has affected the country in various ways. The lifestyle in Nepal varies from Himalaya and Terai. The people from Terai are often termed as Madhesis and are discriminated on their color. There are also various cases of conflicts between the people from Hills and Terai. The indigenous peoples of Nepal have been politically demoralized, economically exploited, culturally and socially discriminated against.

Rural development is as important as urban development. Alleviating the hardships of the rural people is fundamental to rural development. Efforts at developing the rural areas are aimed at creating industries and employment opportunities. Any initiative towards this end would be welcomed with open arms in Nepal.
