Sodium hydroxide was used as a catalyst because it is cheaper and reacts faster than acid catalyst. The preparation of biodiesel by single stage transesterification process is show in Fig XX. The waste animal fat was converted into methyl esters through alkaline base-catalyzed transesterification process with methanol in the presence of NaOH catalyst.
