I believe that urban spaces have an impact on how people position themselves in a context, how they behave and how they think. By choosing to study urban planning and design, it is not just the design skills that I want to learn, I want to learn how design impacts people and how good designs can contribute to generating a more harmonious society.
The year of 2007 was the first time in human history when the urban population of the world was larger than the rural population. By 2050, the largest increase in the urban population of the world will be in India, projected at around 400,000,000 people (United Nations, Department of Economic and Social Affairs, Population Division (2014): World Urbanization Prospects: The 2014 Revision.) The US has a long tradition of planning its cities, analysing their successes/failures and scholars who are on the frontier of the development in this field, making it an ideal place for education. Being in the currents and crosscurrents of various ideas, theories, experiments, histories and thoughts will give me a panoramic understanding of urban design and planning. Studying in a university in US will also be an opportunity to interact with professors and students from diverse backgrounds and learning from their experiences. Moreover, Living in a completely different context than mine, being a part of the daily life of a city and observing how built environment is impacting that life will be a learning experience …show more content…
I am also inclined towards programs that specifically address urban issues of developing world along with issues of American cities. For my Master's thesis, I would like to select a topic that concerns the Indian cities directly. Working on a subject that is innate to me and to having the guidance of professors from a different context will definitely generate a work that is meaningful to both the contexts. I am considering to investigate issues like gender dynamics in public spaces. However, this idea would get sharper during my studies.
I do not see this graduate program as an end in itself. After coming back to India, I will still be connected to the people and to the intellectual discourse in the US. After my graduate studies, it will become even more important than now, to continue teaching and share my knowledge in all possible ways. The task of making the Indian cities and its challenges are monumental. It can only be a collaborative effort. I also think it will be crucial for me to not just keep building but to make strategies, research and experiments to generate more and more knowledge that will help me (and others) build
In the documentary “The ten Town That Changed America” Geoffrey Baer illustrates the evolution of ten popular cities of the 21st century America. Done in chronological order, the documentary explores how these US cities were developed by visionary citizens who combined, urban planning, design, and architecture to change the way people lived. According to the documentary, these planners had passion and great insights for urban development, although driven by different inspirations and motivations. But one thing was central to these people: to build an environment that would change the way people live in America.
I am hoping that this will broaden my experiences and open up lots of opportunities to grow. When I have completed my education, my goal is to return to a rural area in Iowa bringing home all of the things I have learned in my academic career and get an occupation as a social media specialist at an ag company.
This, as well as many other important characteristics one will need to become successful can be learned in
After college I want to be able to draft plans and go out into the world and actually talk with people and understand the needs and concerns with each community. After studying Urban Geosciences at Georgia State I will be able to apply the skills and knowledge to help redesign better

Political dimensions of the urban policy dilemma: The political dilemma is whether the government should take responsibility for the lack of affordable housing, and to what extent the government should intervene in social conflicts. There is the conservative argument that homelessness is inevitable, and that government should be more hands off. For instance, the homeless are heavily dependent on welfare, and on governmental institutions, which is a burden for taxpayers that have no relationship to the homeless population.
Urbanization, or the growth of cities, erupted during the Industrial Revolution. Cities were a place of work, innovation, and technology. Over the course of fifty years (1850-1900) more and more people moved to the cities, which caused more and more problems in them. With these problems came solutions, and those solutions led to change. These changes could be good like movements to get cleaner water or having plumbing.
Education is not limited to a classroom setting; in fact, I believe that discoveries are best when there is adventure. Therefore, a lifestyle in the city that never sleeps will provide this, especially when traveling. Relating my career objectives to my intended majors is a task that should not be bewildering. Both should complement each other and exemplify the most significant characteristics of the person. Personally, my aspiration to perform research in New York City pairs well with my genuine interest in one of the most miraculous subjects,
I am very motivated to help people and these goals will help me to
In 1981, at the age of five, I emigrated from Wroclaw, Poland to the United States of America. I was fortunate to have grown up minutes from one of the most culturally and socially diversified cities in the world, New York City. It is there that I was exposed to a broad spectrum of ethnicities and communities. It motivated me to more seriously consider my own identity and as a result, consciously pursue a balance between my own two cultures. After extensive research and careful consideration, I decided on the Cultural Anthropology-Citizen Sustainability program because I found it to be exceptionally well suited for my personal academic growth and my unwavering passion to better understand and appreciate the beauty in the diversity of the human experience.
Introduction As the world’s population continues to migrate and live in urban areas, planners, engineers, and politicians have an important role to ensure that they are livable and sustainable. But what defines an urban area and what makes it so attractive? In my opinion, urban areas are places that consist of a variety of land uses and buildings, where services and amenities are easily accessible to the general public, and includes an established multimodal transportation network. Also, it should be a place where people can play, learn, work, and grow in a safe and collaborative manner.
In essence of all the research gathered and thought over, I do believe I will continue to pursue epidemiology and the health care field with the obstacles that I know will be ahead of me in order to better not only myself but the world as
This comes through intense research about the step that you are going to
INTRODUCTION URBAN LAND USED SYSTEM Urban land use system means the system which manages the land area in urban cities. The land in urban areas should plan very well to mitigate the issues that arise in the future. Planning of buildings, roads, highways, rail ways, ports, stations and flyovers has to be planned under this system. It is very important to plan the urban land properly by placing the infrastructures in the proper places because wrong management plans will creates huge cost for the economy.
Studying abroad is a growing opportunity that many people around the world of all different ages take. In 2012, over 760 thousand international students studied abroad in the United States alone.
